Marcos Antonio Amaro dos Santos (Motuca, September 25th, 1957) is a general of the Brazilian Army, that is currently Chief of the Brazilian Army Staff, having already held the position of chief of the country's Military House.

Military Career

Dos Santos entered the military career on march 4th, 1974, attending the Escola Preparatória de Cadetes do Exército (EsPCEx) (Brazilian Army Preparatory School of Cadets), and after that the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN) (Military Academy of Agulhas Negras) where he was declared aspirante-a-oficial of the Artillery, on december 15th, 1980. He was the first of his class and was awarded the bronze Marechal Hermes' Medal.

Between 1981 - 1983, he served at the 12th Group of Field Artillery, in Jundiaí, and was promoted to second lieutenant on august 31st, 1981, and to lieutenant on december 25th, 1982. Then, he returned to AMAN, as instructor of the Artillery Course between 1984 - 1986. Rose to the position of Captain on december 25th, 1986. Between 1987 and 1988, worked at the 31st Group of Field Artillery School, in Rio de Janeiro. In that period, he took a Target Localization course in the United States.

In 1989, he attended a school for Officers Improvement, being once again the first of his artillery class, earning the silver Marechal Hermes' Medal. He stayed as an instructor of that school and took an advanced Artillery Course in the United States.

Superior Officer

He was promoted to the position of Major on august 31st, 1993 and took a course of Advanced Military Studies at the Escola de Comando e Estado-Maior do Exército (Brazilian Army Command and General Staff School) between 1995 and 1996. Once more he was the first of his class, earning yet another Marechal Hermes' Medal. After that, he served at the Brazilian Army's General Staff, in Brasilia.

He was designated to the Institutional Security Office of Brazil and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on august 31st, 1998. Right after, dos Santos was nominated Military Attaché in Suriname.

Returning to Brazil, reached the rank of Colonel on august 31st of 2004 and ran the Brazilian Army Preparatory School of Cadets, in Campinas, from december 6th, 2003 to december 11th, 2005. In 2006, took the 'Politics, Strategy and Higher Management of the Army' course, at the Brazilian Army Command and General Staff School. After that, he came back to serve in Brasilia.

General rank

On march 31st, 2010, he was promoted to Brigadier General, and designated to command the 13th Brigade of Field Artillery, in Cuiabá. At the end of the same year, returned to Brasilia as Secretary of Presidential Safety, staying in that duty for 5 years, until his promotion to Division General on march 31st, 2014. With the transformation of the Insitutional Security Office of Brazil into the Military House of Brazil, dos Santos was nominated as it's Chief.

By exiting the Presidency, was nominated as Commander of the 3rd Army Division, in Santa Maria, assuming the Command on august 19th, 2016, and staying up until march 28th, 2018, when he was promoted to Army General on march 31st of the same year.

He led the Secretary of Economy and Finances of the Army, and was the Southeastern Military Command from july 3rd, 2019, to april 28th, 2020.
