The gotra names of the Jat people are generally unique in South Asia, but some do overlap with the Sainis, Rajputs, Kamboj, Ahirs, and Gujars.[1] Following is a partial list of Jat clans, which has been compiled from various sources, including publications by Jat historians such as Ompal Singh Tugania,[2] Bhaleram Beniwal,[3][4] Mahendra Singh Arya and collaborators,[5] Thakur Deshraj,[6] Dilip Singh Ahlawat,[7] and Ram Swarup Joon.[8] The list includes more than 2700 Jat gotras. Thakur Deshraj, Ram Swarup Joon and Dilip Singh Ahlawat have described histories of some of the Jat gotras. Note that due to transliteration, the spellings of clan names may vary.
