Affect ([affectus or adfectus] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: text has italic markup (help)) is a philosophical concept used by Baruch Spinoza, Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari.
Affects, according to Deleuze, are not simple emotions, since they are independent from their subject. Artists create affects and percepts ("blocks of space-time"), he argues, whereas science works with functions and philosophy creates concepts.
