User:Decagon/Talk:Timocles of Rhodes

You gotta be kidding me

Low importance? Really? As a philosophy professor (specializing in the ancients), I have to say that Timocles of Rhodes was quite a bit more important than your encyclopedia gives him credit for. He was the first to come up with the idea that the earth revolved around the moon -- which, while not strictly true in the modern sense, prefigured heliocentrism. Indeed, you might say Copernicus was a "Neo-Timoclean"! --CoolProf182 (talk)

Poorly substantiated

I think the article puts way too much stock in the elixir of life claim. Not only is the idea absurd on its face, but apart from Timocles' own writings, there's no contemporary record of him inventing any elixir at all, other than "horse potion." Crustphunk (talk) 22:12, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

It offends me as a scholar that you put horse potion in quotes. this will not stand. THe gulf between horse potion and the potions invented by previous philosophers cannot be overstated, and the very idea of killing a horse and using its dead face to make a potion belonged to Timocles alone. So keep your fool mouth shut when you don't know what you're talking about. --CoolProf182 (talk)
CoolProf182, in case you didn't bother to read my page, I'm a moderator here. You're on notice. Ball's in your court. Crustphunk (talk) 23:20, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism

CoolProf, I didn't want to have to do this, but you continue to vandalize Timocles' page. No neutral source confirms the "powers of sex godhood" you ascribe to him. Certainly he was not "chill" with Pliny the Elder, who lived centuries later. I tried to WP:Assume good faith, but you've made your decision, I suppose. One-week temporary ban. Ta-ta. Crustphunk (talk) 27:45, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

This user's behavior surely violates the code of conduct for whatever school has the displeasure of employing him. Can we get an IP trace? --El Touch of Midas (talk)
Huh, weird. The address geolocates to the old walled city of Rhodes. Crustphunk (talk) 28:08, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
...Are you thinking what I'm thinking? --El Touch of Midas (talk)
Would you take a look at that. The first 2000-year-old sockpuppet. CoolProf182, or should I say Timocles, sorry I ever doubted the elixir of life thing. Of course, you're perma-banned for this shit. Crustphunk (talk) 28:11, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Posting in an epic thread --StupidIndividual6
Clean up some typos, set up a redirect, ban an Ancient Greek philosopher... just your average day in the wilds of the wiki. Heh. --El Touch of Midas (talk)
^ This. A million times this.
