Certeon, Inc. is a United States technology company that provides WAN optimization products and services. Founded in 2003, Certeon's headquarters and research and development is located in Burlington, Massachusetts with additional sales presence in the United Kingdom and the Asia Pacific Region.[1]

Technology

Certeon aCelera WAN optimization and Application Acceleration software provides integrated functions covering network protocol optimization, network data reduction, application performance and network traffic control. [2]

Certeon products provide performance improvements across low-bandwidth, high-latency network connections. They are typically deployed between a company remote office and data center. Performance is improved by reducing application response time as well as the amount of traffic traversing the WAN.[3]

Certeon holds patents in the areas of Networking, Network Security, Distributed Caching, and the use of Mobile Agents.[4] [5] [6] [7]

Products

Certeon offers products in several areas, all related to network optimization and performance.

aCelera Virtual Appliance

The aCelera VA is a WAN Optimization virtual appliance. The aCelera VA runs exclusively in virtual environments.[8] The aCelera Virtual Appliance can be deployed to support small branch offices, enterprise data centers, as well as cloud provider networks.[9][10][11]

The aCelera VA runs on the following virtualization hypervisors:

  • VMware ESX / ESXi
  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Citrix XENServer

aCelera for Windows Server

Certeon aCelera for Windows Server uses the aCelera VA technology implemented as a native Windows application. It can be deployed as either a virtual appliance in VmWare or Hyper-V, or installed as a native application to create a WAN optimization appliance from an existing Windows Server.[12]

aCelera Mobile Client

The aCelera Mobile Client is a small installable software package for Windows XP and Windows 7 machines. It provides acceleration for individual users to an aCelera VA at the corporate data center or in cloud provider network. The aCelera Client is typically deployed for home workers, telecommuters, contract or outsource workers. It can also be deployed in very small offices where it may not be feasible to install the aCelera VA.[13]

aCelera Sync

The aCelera Sync product works with Dell's Equalogic Auto-Replication feature to reduce backup times in Disaster Recovery scenarios.[14]

aCelera Central Management System

The aCelera Central Management System (CMS) software enables global policy configuration and deployment for Certeon’s aCelera family of products. It utilizes a template-based approach to configuration that allows common configuration options to be modified in a single location.[15]

Acquisition History

On April 16, 2003, Certeon acquired InfoLibria, a provider of hardware and software solutions for Internet content management. [16]
