Chris LeBlanc

Chris LeBlanc is an award-winning Canadian film director of Acadian origin. He studied cinema at Montreal's Concordia University. His first film Illusions de Grandeur (1991) won La Vague at the Festival International du Cinéma Francophone en Acadie in Moncton, N-B as well as Best Short at The Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax N-S. From there he and acolyte Paul Bossé produced the first acadian french language fiction series called C.H.E.P.A. (1995), which won the Best Variety Series award given by the Atlantic Cable Association. Then followed Lunatiques (1999) a science fiction anthology series broadcast by TFO which was nominated for Best Technical Achievment at the Prix Eloises given out by the Association des Artistes Professionels du Nouveau-Brunswick ( AAPNB). Moving to another genre LeBlanc began a series of documentaries and became co-founder of Cojak Productions based in Tracadie-Sheila N-B. 2001 saw the release of Libérateur Libéré, a documentary about a canadian soldier reunited with his Dutch daughter after 54 years, earning the director an Artist of the year in Cinema and Television Award at the Prix Éloises in 2002. The following year Désoriental (2003) was nominated for the same prize. Les Larmes du Lazaret (2003) next chronicles the horror of Canada's first leprosy outbreak and the advent of a lazaretto operated by Montreal's Hospitalières Saint-Joseph in Tracadie-Sheila. [http;//musee-tracadie.com link text], This docu-fiction was the opening film at the Festival International du Documentaire in Cape Breton, France. Next came the controversial La Légende Bricklin (2005), which brought the infamous creator of an ill-fated sports car back to New-Brunswick: Malcolm Bricklin. The Bricklin SV-1 is the brainchild of the self promoting entrepreneur and then premier Richard B. Hatfield, which featured gull wing doors and an acrylic body. The car was designed by Herb Grasse, the man behind the Batmobile from the original TV series.
