Biographical Information and Creation
Creation
While Dennis Bateman was recording voice lines for the support class Spy he was approached to record lines for another character that was planed to be in the game. Bateman ended up taking the role of the character that would ultimately become Pyro.
In Universe Origins
The Pyro's backstory is entirely unknown, There is no information on Pyro's background. What is known is that Pyro sees the world in the context of Pyroland, a colourful fluffy world and sees their enemies as cherubs. as well as seeing their weapons as instruments of spreading joy and happiness. Out side of this, Pyro is the Mercenary that has the least amount of information about them. Another thing that is known is that Pyro is human as confirmed by the holiday cosmetic item: The Voodoo Cursed Pyro Soul which shows Pyro's gas mask damaged revealing a human skull underneath.
Team Fortress 2
Pyro along with Scout, Soldier, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Sniper and Spy is hired by the Mann brothers: Redmond and Blutarch to fight in gravel wars for the gravel pits in New Mexico that were left to Redmond and Blutarch in an equal share by their father Zepheniah Mann on his death bed to make sure they would spend the rest of their lives fighting each other.
Meet the Pyro
The RED Pyro heads to wipe out the BLU team by killing them all in various ways such as swinging the fire axe into the BLU Heavy's head, shooting the BLU Scout in the face with the Scorch shot and Locking the BLU Medic in a barn and setting the barn a blaze with the flame thrower. later as the BLU sniper grabs Pyro's boot they burn the Sniper alive as he screams in agony. Afterwood the Pyro walks away as the Blu soldier drops dead and a building crumbles. Weather or not this is actually cannon is unknown but is it rather unlikely.
Jungle Inferno
Pyro accompanies Scout, Soldier, Sniper and Spy while they are looking for Saxton Hale in Mercenary Park (Formally Yeti Park) after the last Yeti escaped. Pyro then gets stepped on by the Yeti. towards the end, Pyro is seen hold one of the Yeti's arms.
Expiration Date
Pyro only appears twice in the background briefly with the first time they are seen being when Spy is reading out the dying wishes of the other mercenaries and latter when the mercenaries and Miss Pauling are fighting the giant bread monster caused by Soldier teleporting too much bread.

Appearance and Concept Art
In concept art Pyro is shown to be a bald white man with a large nose. eventually, It was decided that Pyro would wear a gas mask whilst keeping the flame-retardant suit, the latter of which changes between red and blue depending on the team that the player is playing for. Aside from the Gas mask and asbestos lined suit, The Pyro also has an oxygen tank on their back and three napalm grenades on their chest that change from orange (If they are playing for RED) to yellow (If they are playing for BLU). They stand at 5,9 feet tall making them the second shortest mercenary. only second to the Engineer.
Personality and Relationship with the other Mercenaries
The Pyro acts less like a malicious killer and more like an over grown child and seems to have a child like mind. Outside of the child like nature Pyro does have a genuine love for fire and all things relating to fire. The other Mercenaries have various opinions on Pyro. Pyro's relationship with Heavy does not seem hostile but he is not overly kind to Pyro either unless he is bribing Pyro. In Meet the Pyro, Heavy is quoted as saying: "I fear no man, but that thing ...it scares me." Scout and Spy also made their own statements such as Scout calling Pyro a freak and Spy saying He "Shudders to imagine what inhuman thoughts lie behind that mask." Engineer is by far the most friendly to Pyro and treats them like small child. It is unclear what the rest of the team has to say about them.
Weapons
Primary
The Flame Thrower
The Flame Thrower is the default/stock primary weapon for the Pyro. Is has a magazine count of 200 and after attacking the enemy, It can also fire a burst of air commonly called Air Blast to push enemy's away and extinguish team mates that are on fire at the cost of 25 ammo from the magazine. Another benefit is that the player will regain 20 hit points for extinguishing team mates.
The Backburner
The Backburner is an alternative primary weapon that replaces the Flame Thrower that can be unlocked via obtaining 16 achievements for the Pyro. The Backburner is distinguishable from the Stock Flame Thrower by having a dragon's head at the front of the weapon. Like the stock Flamethrower, it has a magazine count of 200. The Difference between The Backburner and Flame Thrower is that the Backburner will always inflict Critical hits only when the Player using it attacks an enemy from behind. The draw back to the Backburner is that using Air will cost 50 Ammo from the Magazine instead of 25.

Gender Debate
One topic of discussion surrounding Pyro is weather or not Pyro is Male or Female. There are several hints pointing towards Pyro being male but also several others pointing to Pyro being female. One argument that is made is that Pyro is voiced by Dennis Bateman who is a man but this can be countered by the Bob's Burgers Character Linda Belcher who is a woman voiced by John Roberts who is also a man.
