David Buzby is an American private investor in energy generation, energy storage, water treatment, material re-use and other "impact" investments.
Career
David has been starting, building and investing in “impact” businesses for the last 27 years with an emphasis on renewable energy generation, energy storage/grid services, wastewater treatment and e-commerce. Together these activities have created over $3.5 billion of shareholder value.
He currently sits on the Board of Leading Edge Crystal Technologies, Cambrian Innovation[1], Stem[2] and Paragon Power[3] as well as being a member of the Investment Committee at the PRIME Coalition[4].
He has in the past been a founding investor and director of SunRun[5], SunEdison[6], Valueclick[7], Brilliant Light Power[8], Bright Plain Renewable Energy[9], Prevalent Power, Resource Holdings and Best Internet[10]. He served as Chairman/CEO of SunEdison (until it’s sale in 2009), CEO of Resource Holdings and Bright Plain, and Vice Chairman/CFO of Best Internet. Prior to his entrepreneurial career, he worked at Chase Manhattan and Lloyds Bank International for 4 years.
He has specific experience innovating business models and financial structures to catalyze investment in solar (Prevalent Power, SunEdison and SunRun), distributed energy storage and services (Stem) and industrial water treatment (Cambrian). The Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”) model developed by SunEdison[11] has attracted over $500 billion of investment and is the standard for how utility, commercial and residential solar projects get implemented.
