Eddie Ashworth (born in Inglewood, California) is a record producer, engineer, mixer, musician, university professor, entrepreneur and writer, best known for his work in the alternative rock and indie rock genres. His primary instrument is mandolin, and also plays guitar and assorted keyboards. Ashworth has also worked with artists in a wide variety of other genres including dub, folk, hard rock, hip hop, tropicano, punk, and classic rock.
Early Life
As a child Eddie Ashworth found interest in music and would play with whatever consumer recording gear his father had around the house. Due to his early interest in music his parents bought him a Sears Silvertone, which he learned to play on. Later Eddie would go on to study English at UCLA and graduated with a BA in English literature.[1]
Production Career
After college Eddie prospected the idea of recording records. Ripping out a piece of notebook paper and scribbling down his resume with a ball point pen he began searching for jobs around local studios. Eddie's biggest qualification was that had acquired nearly 3,000 records. Eddie landed a job at Larrabee Sound as a recording engineer, replacing another young engineer the studio had lost that day. After working on many disco records and over 100 hour work weeks Eddie quit Larrabee Sound and moved to New England. There he went on a four year hiatus in the recording industry.[2]
Once asked by a friend from UCLA to work on a recording project at Normandy Sounds Eddie decided to get back into the recording industry. He moved back to L.A. to find work as an independent engineer for the next two years. Eddie came to know many of the local studios in the area. one of which was called Total Access. There he met the band Great White who then asked him to work on their upcoming album Once Bitten.... This album would be Eddie's first gold record.[3] He is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Association for the Art of Record Production (ASARP) and, as a songwriter, is affiliated with Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI). In 2011, Eddie was named to the Editorial Board of the Journal for the Art of Record Production (JARP).[4]
