Reith was born September 4, 1914 in Iowa to Francis S. Reith and Emma Carlson Reith married widow Maxine Wallace Minton in Holdenville, Oklahoma on September 20, 1945. They had 3 children, Francis, Jr, Donna and Charles.

Reith enlisted in the Army on January 13, 1942, in Forrest, Mississippi.

At the 1957 Indianapolis 500 he was selcted to drive the Indianapolis 500 pace cars a 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser.
