Carol Beaugard is the host of one of WFDU-FM’s longest running radio programs, “Lonesome Pine RFD” (formerly ‘The Sunrise Saloon’). Since 1985, Carol has gained a devoted fan base and has come to be recognized as the authoritative voice of bluegrass in the NY Metropolitan area.
“Lonesome Pine RFD” is heard every Thursday morning on 89.1, WFDU-FM from 6:00 – 9:00 am and Fridays from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon (ET), streamed live on www.wfdu.fm. The program is also broadcast three times a week (Mondays at midnight, Wednesdays at 9 pm and Thursdays at 12 noon) on WAMU’s ‘Bluegrass Country’ in Washington D.C on HD Radio, 88.5, Channel 2, on 105.5 FM from Reston, VA and worldwide online on www.bluegrasscountry.org.
The Thursday program spotlights an entertaining mix of contemporary and classic bluegrass, historical notes on the music, current concert information and ‘backstage stories’ about the artists. Carol was the first person at WFDU-FM to create a special program segment devoted to bluegrass gospel. This popular feature called ‘The Hour in the Light’ airs every Thursday morning beginning at 8:00 am.
The Friday edition of “Lonesome Pine RFD” broadcasts on Fridays from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon (ET). On Fridays she highlights a mix of progressive string music and traditional bluegrass and features live in-studio performances and interviews.
Over the years Carol has welcomed many legendary artists to the studios of WFDU-FM as her special guest. Highlights include in-studio concerts and interviews with Rhonda Vincent, Ralph Stanley, Alison Krauss, The Del McCoury Band, Dudley Connell, Claire Lynch, Randy Kohrs, Jerry Salley, Cherryholmes, Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, John McEuen, The Gibson Brothers, The Lovell Sisters, Bob Amos of Front Range, Tony Rice, Hazel Dickens, The Reno Brothers, Tony Trischka, Tom Adams, Tony Furtado, David Grier, Barry Mitterhoff, Walt Michaels, and documentary producer/director Ken Burns among many others.
Carol’s radio work was profiled in a feature story in “Bluegrass Unlimited” and “Bluegrass Now”. Her renown in radio has led to emcee appearances at Lincoln Center, The Bottom Line, Carnegie Hall, The Windgap Bluegrass Festival, The Gettysburg Bluegrass Camporee, The Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival, The Peaceful Valley Bluegrass Festival, The Pines Hotel, The Emelin Theater, and The Turning Point. Carol was the emcee for John Duffey’s last live concert appearance at the John Harms Center for the Arts in Englewood, NJ, just three days before his untimely passing.
Carol is also a performer. She is the lead vocalist and guitarist with her band, “Odyssey Drive”, which she co-founded with her fiancé, mandolin player Wayne Fugate. Carol also clog dances and is a former member of The Fiddlestyx Cloggers. Additionally she is a former professional actress and singer with credits touring in Off-Broadway houses and dinner theaters throughout the Northeast. She studied acting at the prestigious HB Studios in New York. Currently she is studying guitar and music theory and is beginning to learn violin.
Carol’s broadcast credits include on-air work with WGBH-FM, WERS-FM (Boston, MA) WMCA-AM (New York), Jukebox Radio, WMTR-AM, WCTC-AM and WVNJ-AM (New Jersey). She is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, MA, and holds a Bachelor of Science and Speech.
Carol is the president and founder of her own event planning company, Affairs of Distinction. She has been featured as one of the country’s leading event planners on The Style Network’s “Whose Wedding is it Anyway?”, TLC-TV’s “The Wedding Story”, “Event Solution Magazine, New Jersey Monthly, Savvy Living, Modern Bride and New Jersey Bride.
Her hobbies include swing dancing, researching historic sites, travel, collecting vintage radios and organic cooking. She recently moved to the Hudson Valley in NY State and enjoys living in the mountains.
