Alison Barrington is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, Port Charles, a spin-off of General Hospital. She was portrayed by Erin Hershey Presley from March 14, 2000 until the Port Charles finale on October 3, 2003. On January, 2013 it was revealed that Presley would be reprising her role as Alison on General Hospital. She is the granddaughter of Amanda Barrington and cousin of Mike Webber, and one half of the super couple, Rafe Kovich and Alison Barrington.

In March, 2000, Port Charles hired actress Erin Hershey in the recurring role of Alison Barrington, the granddaughter of legendary General Hospital character Amanda Barrington (Anne Jeffreys).^[1] Hershey made a guest appearance on the parent series during the 2000 Nurses' Ball. Hershey married her Port Charles costar Brian Presley, who portrays Jack Ramsey, in 2002.^[2] She stayed with the series until its cancellation in October, 2003.^[3] In January 2013, it was announced that Presley was reprise the role on General Hospital.^[4][5][6] Her return coincided with the return of Jon Lindstrom, who portrayed Dr. Kevin Collins on both General Hospital and Port Charles, as part of a revisit to the vampire storyline.^[7][8][9] Shortly after her return, the character is killed off, leading to a murder mystery storyline on the series.^[10][11] Presley returned as a ghost for two episodes in February, 2013.^[12]

In January 2013, Alison returns to Port Charles, with her son Rafe, in tow. It is implied that Alison and Rafe have been on the run for many years, presumably from Caleb Morley. After leaving Rafe with a silver arrow to defend himself from harm, Alison makes her way to the Police Department, looking for information on Lucy Coe. Once there, she mistakes John McBain for Caleb, and Samantha Morgan for her old friend, Livvie Locke. Alison later contacts John to meet her at the Pier, but by the time he arrives, Alison has been stabbed to death by the very same arrow she had given to Rafe, who is detained as the primary suspect. Alison appears to Lucy and Rafe as a ghost when they are trying to confront Caleb, who is really Stephen Clay. She helps Lucy find a way out of the Spoon Island tunnels, and tells Rafe to not give up hope.

The pairing between Alison and Rafe Kovich proved to be extremely popular with critics and fans, leading to them becoming the first super couple on Port Charles. Janet Di Lauro of Soap Opera Digest wrote of the couple, " The minute actors Brian Gaskill and Erin Hershey Presley crossed paths on screen, the show's scribes knew they'd struck gold. "He looked at her and we said, 'Oh man, this is it!' recalls [Barbara] Esensten. 'Whenever we put them in a scene together, between those big, watery eyes of hers and the way he smiles at her ... I wish we could bottle it."'^[13] Soap Opera Digest also named Hershey "Performer of the Week" in their February 19, 2002 issue for her performance in portraying Alison as torn between Jamal and Rafe.^[14] Soap Opera Weekly's Joe Diliberto also praised Hershey for her work during "the crumbling of Alison's relationship with Jamal" and the beginning of her romance with Rafe.^[15] Diliberto said, "As Port Charles Alison, Erin Hershey mixed heaping amounts of amiability with dollops of sadness and a dash of bittersweet to come up with a performance sweeter than any candy."^[15]TV Guide also applauded the premiere of Port Charles's tenth book, "Surrender," because the expanded episode gave Hershey Presley more time to "showcase her range" -- range they believed she deserved a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for.^[16] In 2003, Presley was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Alison.^[17][18] She ultimately lost to Jennifer Finnigan of The Bold and the Beautiful.^[19]

Alison's return in 2013 was well received by critics and fans. Although, several critics were disappointed that her return was short lived, and that Alison was murdered at the end of her second episode back.^[20]

Dr. Mary Eleanor "Ellen" Burgess is a fictional character from the ABC soap opera Port Charles. The role was originated by Debbi Morgan, and later played by Marie-Alise Recasner.

The role of Dr. Ellen Burgess was originated by Debbi Morgan, known for her portrayal of Angie Hubbard onAll My Children, Loving, and The City, when the series premiered on June 2, 1997.^[21] In November 1998, Morgan announced that she would leave the role, in order to focus on her film career.^[22][23] The role was recast with actress Marie-Alise Recasner.^[24] Recasner last appeared in 1999.

Morgan described the character, which was a seen as a departure for the actress, whose Angie was known for being a generally nice character, by saying "She's everything I abhor in doctors-their abruptness, the lack of bedside manners that so many of them have. She's a talented doctor and brilliant at what she does. Her bedside manner just sucks!"^[25]

At the start of the series, Dr. Burgess is portrayed as the stern resident in charge of all the new interns. After her mother passes away, she begins showing a softer side of her personality. She also becomes friends with an intern, Matt Harmon, and they later begin a relationship. Once their affair is exposed, Ellen is removed from her work with the interns. She then meets a mysterious stranger named Sebastian Dupree and sleeps with him. He dies, but Matt finds out about the affair and breaks up with Ellen. When Rachel Locke arrives in town, Ellen recognizes her from somewhere. Rachel arranges from Ellen to have a new job in San Francisco, and for unknown reasons, Ellen is forced to leave Port Charles, forever.

Rafe Kovich is a fictional character from the ABC soap opera, Port Charles. Portrayed by Brian Gaskill, he first appeared in 2001, and stayed with the series until its cancellation in 2003.

Actor Brian Gaskill was cast in the initially recurring role of Rafe Kovich during the summer of 2001.^[26] After Port Charles' cancellation in 2003, Gaskill was cast on the CBS soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful.^[27]

Rafe initially claimed to be a vampire slayer, but it was later revealed he was a distant cousin to Lucy Coe. Rafe helped Lucy and Kevin Collins learn that Michael and Caleb Morley were the same person and a vampire as well. Rafe was able to help in Caleb's eventual downfall. While working behind the scenes, Rafe's true identity as an angel was learned by Alison Barrington. Alison became intrigued and enchanted by Rafe, but her attraction to him caused a rift in her relationship with Jamal Woods. During the course of Caleb's reign of terror, Rafe revealed that Caleb had been responsible for his death. Rafe had tried to prevent Caleb from killing a young woman—but when his back was turned, Caleb took his life instead.

As the holidays neared, Rafe's heavenly boss, Ed, gave him until Christmas to undo the harm done by Caleb. That meant that Rafe had only a few weeks to reunite all of the couples that had experienced relationship trouble. Rafe succeeded on every level except for one. His relationship with Alison had caused more trouble between Alison and Jamal. Rafe pleaded with Ed to allow him to return to Earth and undo the damage he'd caused. Ed agreed, but it meant that Rafe would be returning without his special powers. He agreed and returned to Earth having to come to terms with his humanity - something he hadn't experienced in quite some time. Rafe's goal was to reunite Jamal and Alison, but his mission took an abrupt turn when he realized that he had fallen in love with Alison and she felt the same. Alison and Jamal suffered a falling out after Jamal's ex, Valerie was accidentally shot and killed. Rafe was there to help Alison pick up the pieces. Soon after Rafe returned to heaven, having to leave his true love Alison behind.

The pairing of Rafe and Alison was highly praised by critics and fans. the two were considered the series' first original supercouple. In the February 5, 2002 issue of Soap Opera Weekly, Gaskill was named Outstanding Performer of the Week. In the article, Joanne Gallo praised him for making "falling in love appear fresh and new," noting how difficult that is to do on a soap opera. "Gaskill's breakout character- aided by his breakout performance- is a welcome change from brooding Caleb."^[28]

Oliva "Livvie" Locke is a fictional character from the ABC soap opera Port Charles. Livvie was portrayed by Kelly Monaco, from 2000 to 2003. Livvie is one half of the super couple pairing between Livvie and Caleb Morley.

The role of Livvie was originated by former Baywatch star and Playboy's April 1997 Playmate of the Month,^[29] Kelly Monaco on July 7, 2000.^[30] She remained with the series until its cancellation in 2003. Monaco then transferred over to Port Charles' parent series,General Hospital.^[31] However, she played a brand new character, Sam McCall, because the supernatural elements of storyline would have made it difficult for the writers to integrate Livvie into the series.^[32]

Livvie came to town in 2000, to reconnect with the woman she believed to be her mother, Rachel Locke. Rachel didn't want her in town, but she soon made friends with Chris Ramsey and Lucy Coe. It was later revealed that Livvie's real parents are Kevin Collins and Grace Reese. For a brief time in 2002, Livvie was married to Jack Ramsey. Livvie later begins a complex relationship with vampire Caleb Morley. They married in 2003.

In 2003, Monaco was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her dual role as Livvie and Tess Ramsey.^[33] The pairing of Livvie and Caleb reached super couple status, due to the popularity among critics and fans.^[34]

Caleb Morley is a fictional character from the ABC soap opera Port Charles. He was portrayed by Michael Easton on and off from 2001 until 2003.

Michael Easton played Father Michael Morley, and his alter ego, Caleb, staring on May 11, 2001. He continued to make appearances on the series until its final episode on October 3, 2003. Easton was then cast on One Life to Live, as John McBain^[35], a role he'd later play on General Hospital.^[36] Easton stated on whether McBain's resemblance to Caleb would be referenced, "They've gotta be careful with that, don't they? They've written something that's kind of cute with McBain and Sam [Kelly Monaco, who also played Caleb's lover Livvie]. They sort of stumble across each other and feel an odd, immediate connection. They have this moment where it's, "Hey, don't I know you from somewhere? Maybe another life?" It's kind of witty and fun. I think that's a good place to leave it for now." ^[37]

The character of Father Michael Morley made his first appearance from May 11, 2001 to August 29, 2001, in the story arc entitled "Time in a Bottle," Easton shortly afterwards also began assuming the role of Father Michael Morley's sinister alter-ego, Caleb, from June 4, 2001 to December 1, 2001, then again from October 25, 2002 to October 3, 2003. Caleb Morley was a fictional vampire, however in contrast to more traditional vampire depictions, the character Caleb Morley was presented as a passionate, deeply conflicted man obsessed with a woman, Livvie ("Olivia") Locke, who resembled his murdered fiancée Olivia. Though malevolent and seductive, Caleb was also shown to be loving and vulnerable. He had a previous relationship with Elizabeth Barrington, and married Livvie in 2003.

Easton's performance was hailed by critics. Star-News praised Easton for playing a character with two distinct personalities, "Michael Easton played both roles to perfection, with the perfect blend of creepiness and sexuality."^[38] The revelation that Easton's character is a vampire warranted as number 27 on TV Guide's list of the 60 Greatest Moments in Soap Opera History.^[39]
