"Lies" is a song by American singer and songwriter James Maslow and American producer Unlike Pluto. The song serves as the debut single for Maslow, minus his cover of OMI's international hit, "Cheerleader", which was released shortly before "Lies".[1]

Background and recording

Maslow and his personal friend, Armond Arabshahi, better known by his stage name as Unlike Pluto, recorded the song together in mid-2015. Production for the track was finalized in early 2015 before being released. "Lies" was officially released at midnight on his official SoundCloud page on July 23, 2015, before being available for purchase at the iTunes Store on July 31, 2015.

Critical reception

After the song's official release on SoundCloud, it received a positive reaction from critics and fans. Jared Eng of Just Jared called the song a "catchy EDM-inspired track", further adding that his debut single "did not disappoint!". Fanlala stated that the song "[made] our hearts skip a beat".[2]

Maslow released a snippet of the upcoming music video for his song on July 31, 2015, via YouTube.[3]
