Anarchism in Germany first emerged in the 1840's, at a time that Germany was not yet a unified country, but rather divided between dozens of kingdoms and principalities. Its origins lie in the influence of both Hegel and Proudhon. In its early stages, the principal proponents of German anarchism were Max Stirner and Wilhelm Weitling.
