Article Text: Luxor (video game series)

Luxor is the name of a series of tile-matching action puzzle video games, developed by MumboJumbo.[citation needed] The first game in the series, simply titled Luxor was released on May 30, 2005. The latest game in the series is Luxor Evolved, which introduces retro vector-styled graphics among other unique additions. The first three games in the series would receive high-definition remakes.[citation needed]

Gameplay

The gameplay of Luxor is similar to that of other marble-matching games such as Puzz Loop and Zuma. The objective of the game is to clear the lines of marbles before they reach the "exit," which is depicted as a pyramid with a large light on its tip. Also similar to Zuma, once the player has beaten three series of stages, the stages repeat with an extra color to match, and additional stages included within each set. Unlike the aforementioned games, however, the lines of marbles are not a constant stream; instead, they are sizable lines of marbles being pushed by scarabs along the fixed path. The player takes control of a winged marble-launcher and is able to move across the bottom of the screen and shoot upward toward the ones being pushed by the scarabs (as opposed to being fixed to a certain part of the screen and being able to shoot in all directions). There are two ways that the marble-pushing scarabs can be destroyed: either by popping all the marbles in front of them or if they are squished by marbles behind them. In the former case they will drop prizes for the player to collect. If a scarab has progressed far enough, another will spawn pushing another set of marbles. Once the player has earned enough points in a stage, the scarabs will cease to spawn. At the end of the stage, a scarab will come out of the pyramid exit and self-destruct at the point where the last marbles were, giving a bonus to the player based on how far from the exit the players managed to get the marbles, and (in later games) spawning coins as it crawls through the path. Occasionally, popped marbles will drop powerups with various capabilities such as allowing matches between two different colored marbles, or causing an explosion on a focused area.

Luxor Series

Complaint

After competitor Codeminion released their game StoneLoops! of Jurassica for iPhone, MumboJumbo sent a complaint to Apple with the request to remove the game from the Apple App Store. According to MumboJumbo the game has many similarities with the Luxor-series which could confuse customers. Apple accepted the complaint and the game was removed.[1]
