Satoshi Tokushige(徳重 聡 Tokushige Satoshi, July 28th, 1978--)is a Japanese actor and talent affiliated with Hori Agency. He has been active in entertainment since 2000. He was born in Kagoshima Prefecture and raised in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

Life and Career

Satoshi Tokushige was born in Kagoshima Prefecture[1] and later relocated to Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, where he attended Shizuoka East Toyoda Elementary and Junior High Schools. After graduating from Shizuoka East Toyoda Senior High School, he entered Rissho University's Social Welfare program on a recommendation from his school's soccer program. While there, Tokushige also took an employment exam in order to secure a position in the automotive industry[2]. However, on August 7th, 2000, he made his debut in the entertainment industry on Oronamin C "The Man Who Steals A Hundred Million Hearts" New Talent Discovery Audition ~Find the 21st Century Yujiro Ishihara!~ where he was selected for the grand prize out of 2005 other applicants[3]. He began his career as an actor after several years of lessons.

He played the role of Yujiro Ishihara in Shintaro Ishihara's 2004 television drama Otōto. He reprised the role in the 2021 television drama Yū-san no Nyōbo.

He appeared on a television special for the program Ai no Apron, where it was revealed that he is bad at cooking. Afterwards, he appeared on SMAP x SMAP's Bistro Smap New Year's special, where he participated in a cooking demonstration supporting fellow actor and talent, Masaki Kanda.

Tokushige is a known fan of the TV drama series Tokumei Kakarichō Tadano Hitoshi. He became a fan after working on TV special Maguro with Katsunori Takahashi, who portrays the main character Hitoshi Tadano, and later became a guest star on the program.

Notable acquaintances include former classmate Mikawa Sonomanma, an impressionist entertainer; and professional soccer player Shinji Ono, against whom he played in a Shizuoka Prefecture preliminary high school soccer match.

On the day of his first audition, Tokushige got lost after arriving at the hotel serving as the venue, finding it to be too large. As the time for his audition approached and then passed, he decided to give up on attending, and planned to return home after having some coffee at an on-site cafe. However, believing it to be a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and a good experience if nothing else, he arrived at last at the audition hall. He explained the situation and apologized for his lateness, and was allowed to audition despite arriving 40 minutes past the set time. One of the challenges presented by the judges was to "compose an essay addressed to Yujiro Ishihara." Due to having arrived late and the fact that Tokushige was not at all familiar with Yujiro Ishihara, he turned in just three lines. The content included a line that read "I would like to surpass you [Ishihara]." In addition to being late, Tokushige had behaved fearlessly and confidently, which attracted the interest of the judges. Following judges selected him as well, and eventually he was awarded with the grand prize[4]. Regarding the prize money, Tokushige stated, "I was going to give all of the money to my parents, but I used part of it to buy a car, and part of it to treat my friends from my soccer teams in high school and college who had supported me to dinner," on Bistro Smap.

According to some sources, before contracting with an agency, Tokushige's voice was higher-pitched. Many of his roles have consisted of characters with low voices; eventually his voice naturally became lower.

In 2005, he voiced major character Daigo Dojima in the second installment of Sega's Yakuza video game series. Tokushige has not worked as a voice actor outside of the Yakuza series.

Tokushige struggled with a smoking addiction, admitting at one point that he smoked more than 50 cigarettes per day on average. He quit smoking in 2011.

In 2015, it was announced that Tokushige had married a former classmate from his high school years[5]. The birth of their first daughter was announced on May 20th, 2016.[6]

Tokushige's work as a supporting actor has increased since 2018, when he appeared in the role of Karube in TV drama Shitamachi Rocket.

Tokushige signed with Hori Agency on January 17th, 2021, after his contract with Ishihara Promotions expired.
