I am the first generation (of parents from El Salvador) to be born in the US.

I read, write and speak fluent English and Spanish. I completed two years of high school Spanish courses which taught me proper Spanish grammar.

I speak mostly California English but having lived in Portland and Seattle for 1/3 of my adult life, I probably speak a little Pacific Northwest English.

While I am able to speak with the Chicano English accent with ease, I do not naturally speak this way.

My Spanish dialect and accent is a mixture. Given the fact that my parents are from El Salvador, I learned their Spanish. Given the fact that I was raised among a mostly immigrant Mexican population, I learned their Spanish also. Additionally, I have spent a good amount of time in Spain, thus have learned their Spanish. In reality, the difference is nothing more than regional accent and slang.
