Asher Beckwitt, Ph.D.

Asher Beckwitt, Ph.D. is the founder of Asher Consulting, LLC. She received her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology, specializing in Medical Anthropology from American University in Washington, DC. She also holds a Mater's degree in Sociology from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Dr. Beckwitt has over 10 years of experience and expertise in qualitative analysis research consulting. Prior to starting Asher Consulting, LLC, she created a university-wide qualitative analysis consulting service at George Mason University. In this position, she assisted several hundred doctoral candidates, graduate students, faculty, and staff on research projects from multiple disciplines. She received the Individual Impact Award for creating a university-wide qualitative analysis consulting service at George Mason University and the Human Resources Immediate Recognition Award, for excellent performance in qualitative analysis consulting.

In her dissertation, Surviving Survivorship: Adults Surviving Childhood Cancers' Experiences (ASCCs) Dr. Beckwitt used a grounded theory approach to investigate ASCCs' personal experiences with cancer, social support, access to care, and identity. She passed her dissertation defense with distinction. She also co-authored and published three peer- reviewed journal articles on children with cancer, one article on smoking relapse among low income mothers, and a book chapter exploring the uses of qualitative analysis software in health research.

Dr. Beckwitt is also a part-time professor at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD. She teaches introductory courses in Sociology and Anthropology. Last spring she received the Part-time Faculty Recognition Award in Sociology for her excellence in teaching and service to the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice department.

Dr. Beckwitt specializes in qualitative research design, data collection, qualitative analysis methods, qualitative analysis software, qualitative data analysis, health and medicine, race, gender, social justice, patient/medical advocacy, and cancer survivorship. She utilizes an applied perspective in her work with clients to assist them: a) understand qualitative research methods, b) identify appropriate qualitative methods for their project, c) apply these methods within NVivo 8.0 and 9.0 qualitative data analysis software, and d) analyze qualitative data.
