Adam Jake Taggart (born 2 June 1993) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a striker for the Newcastle Jets in the A-League and the Australian national team.

Club career

Early Career

Born in Perth, Western Australia, Taggart started his association football career at the Western Australia National Training Center[4] before moving to the youth set-up at Perth Glory FC. Taggart also spent the 2009–10 NYL season with the AIS football team where he worked with his future head coach at the Newcastle Jets, Gary van Egmond.[5]

Perth Glory

Before the start of the 2010–11 A-League season it was confirmed that Taggart had been promoted to the senior set-up at Perth Glory FC.[6] He then made his professional debut for the Glory in the league against Melbourne Heart on 15 February 2011.[7] He came on in 80th minute as a substitute for Robbie Fowler as Perth Glory went on to draw the match 1–1.[7] Taggart then scored his first professional goal on 6 February 2011 against Gold Coast United in which his 75th minute strike proved to just be a consolation for the Glory as they lost 2–1.[8]

Newcastle Jets

On 2 March 2012, after failing to gain many first-team opportunities with Perth Glory, Taggart signed with fellow A-League side Newcastle Jets on a two-year contract.[9] Taggart then made his debut for the Jets during the 2012–13 A-League season on 7 October 2012 against Adelaide United.[10] He started the match and played 58 minutes before being subbed off as Newcastle went on to lose 2–0.[10] He then scored his first goal for the Jets on 27 February 2013 against the Wellington Pheonix in which his 19th minute goal opened the scoring for Newcastle as they eventually ran out 2–1 winners.[11] He then scored his second goal for the club only two weeks later on 3 March 2013 against his former club Perth Glory but unfortunetly the match ended with Jets losing 2–1.[12]

2013–14 season

Taggart began the 2013–14 A-League season in style. He scored his first goal on 9 November 2013 against Adelaide United before scoring a brace in the very next match against the Brisbane Roar on 17 November.[13][14] He then wrapped up a tremendous three matches with a hat-trick in the next match against the Melbourne Heart on 24 November 2013 in which his three goals helped the Jets win 3–1.[15]

After those three matches, on 28 November, it was confirmed that Taggart had signed a one-year extension on his contract thus meaning that he will stay with the Jets till the end of the 2014–15 season.[16]

International

Taggart made his international debut for Australia on 3 December 2013 against Hong Kong during the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup preliminary rounds.[17] He came on in the 70th minute for Archie Thompson as Australia won 1–0.
