History of Brezovica ski restort

The current ski resort area was originally established in 1954 in Shtërpcë/Strpce municipality, just south of the town of Shtërpcë/. In 1979 the first ski lift was installed at the resort. Although Brezovica has a prestigious past, having served as an alternative site for downhill skiing events of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games and having hosted a number of International Ski Federation events in the 1980's and 1990's, the current resort has not received meaningful investment for more than two decades. Today, with responsible investment, development, and operation, it offers tremendous potential for value-oriented tourism. The ridge line's terrain offers an unmatched opportunity in the region for the development of an all year mountain resort. In the winter, snow falls from mid-November through May, with an average of 128 skiable days. Summer eco-tourism opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, golf, and other outdoor recreational activities.[1]

Brezovica ski resort

One of the most predominant villages in Shterpca is Brezovica, with a major turism potetal, in winter and summer. Brezovica provides lots oppurtunities for ski lovers, it is the most visited tourist center during the winter. The area of Brezovica mountain has a height of 2500m. The Brezovica ski resort area is ideally situated on north and northwest facing slopes of Kosovo's Sharr National Park. The ridge line spans 39,000 hectares of high alpine mountain terrain and forests, with a highly diverse and abundant offering of flora and fauna. Located within 90 minutes of two international airports, the Brezovica Resort area represents one of the last remaining under-developed ski resort areas in Southeast Europe. Inside of this area are ski slopes with average length of about 4km and an average of 38% flexibility,at the sea level of 1718m. The station of the outline with the exit from the cable car, is at a height of 2212m above sea level. Ski center "Brezovica" is open for skiing during the seasons, where in summer its surface is covered with snow, with a low exploitation possibility. Wide ski terrains of the Ski Centre Brezovica are made of a system that includes: 5 chair lifts and 5 ski lifts, connected with 16 km of ski slopes of the average length 3,000 meters. There are 4 hotels at Brezovica. Three new lifts opened in 2008. On Brezovica FIS slopes for slalom, giant slalom, downhill race and “Super G” simultaneously could ski 50,000 skiers. A number of successful national and international competitions are held at the resort, including the Belgrade-owned "Inex ski center Brezovica", among others. A number of Kosova winter sport teams train at the resort.[2]

Land of Syrinika

Brezovica besides all other attractions, there are also other places in the municipality region that are suitable for tourism. Land of Syrinka resides from entering Shterpce city, until exiting Brezovica. It's mainly a place of tourism, during winter and summer seasons.

Hotels in Brezovica

The Brezovica Ski Centre has around 700 beds in 4 hotels (Woodland Hotel, Shkolla e Skijimit, Narcise and Molika). Additional accommodation possibilities exist in independent hotels and private facilities. Hotel clients have free transportation and free access to ski lifts. The most well known hotels in Brezovica are: Hotel Narcis, Hotel Molika, Shtepija e Gurit and Woodland Hotel. In addition, there are also rentable private houses where you can accommodate yourself.[3]
