Season 1

Florence, 1429. Giovanni de' Medici is a rich banker who also represents one of the most important political forces of Florence's Signoria. He has a plan to increase his family power by making an agreement with the Church of Rome. The election of a new Pope is about to take place and Giovanni sends his sons Cosimo and Lorenzo to Rome in order to encourage the election of a Pope close to his family. In Rome, Cosimo, fascinated by the beuty of ancient architectures and art, meets Donatello and one of his models Bianca. Cosimo falls in love with her and he is then forced to leave her and marry Contessina de Bardi, a political marriage agreed by Giovanni and Contessina's father. The Medici's candidate gets elected and this ensures to the bank of the Medici an agreement that turned his family bank into an unparalleled economic power. Twenty years later, Giovanni is mysteriously murdered and Cosimo and Lorenzo try to secretly investigate about his death. Meanwhile the political situation in the government of the city is troubled by plots against the power of Medici's family and their view for the future of Florence (which will then lead to the Renaissance) is in danger. His dream is to complete the Duomo but no architect seems to have a feasible solution due to the particular shape of the base created for the dome. Finally, Filippo Brunelleschi introduced himself to Cosimo and shows him his plans for the construction of the dome. Cosimo decides to trust Brunelleschi and the construction of the dome starts, bringing jobs and people to Florence. Meanwhile, the mystery sourrounding the death of Giovanni thickens and Rinaldo Albizzi, Cosimo main opponent in the Signoria, tries to obstaculate the construction and to bring the people to rise up against the Medicis.

Eva and Rocco, husband and wife, invite their best friends to dinner: Cosimo and Bianca, Lele and Carlotta and Peppe. The hosts are living a period of crisis, a situation exasperated by Eva's conflicted relationship with her teenage daughter Sofia, who finds an outlet for all her worries and needs only with her father; the second one is a couple of newlyweds, he a taxi driver and she a veterinarian, who strongly wishes to have a child; the third is a couple married for years with two children and various problems; Peppe is instead a former divorced physical education teacher who is currently unemployed. Peppe had promised to present to his friends Lucilla, his new companion, who unfortunately could not come to dinner because of a bad fever. During dinner, friends discuss a couple who recently separated because of a betrayal discovered by his wife reading a message on her husband's cell phone. Telling this story, Eva proposes to everyone to make a game: to place their mobile phone on the table and to accept that the content of all the communications they will receive during the evening (messages and phone calls) is revealed to everyone present. After many hesitations, friends accept intrigues, but unfortunately what was supposed to be a game soon turns into a public confession of all their most intimate secrets.

It turns out that Rocco, a plastic surgeon by profession, has long been in analysis while his wife Eva, an analyst in her turn (and to whom Rocco has always said he believes the analysis was useless) knows nothing about it. Eva, on the other hand, wants to rebuild her breast, but has made sure that the intervention is performed by her husband but by a famous surgeon, Blanchard; Rocco also, after giving his daughter a box of condoms (discovered by Eva poking in Sofia's bag), Rocco gives her advice over the phone (being heard by everyone) about her first sexual experience; Bianca feels with her ex without her husband's knowledge, but only to help him face a new relationship; Cosimo, in addition to having a lover who became pregnant (who was the taxi operator of the taxi service), has a relationship with Eva (but this relationship is revealed only to the spectators, both implied that Rocco has understood it); Carlotta, unbeknownst to her husband, made contact with a nursing home to get rid of her mother-in-law, who lives in their home; both Carlotta and Lele have online relationships.

Lele, to protect himself from the inevitable arrival of an erotic photo of his lover on the cell phone, privately asks Peppe to exchange their mobile phones, as they have them the same; while avoiding that his lover is discovered, a message is soon found and the calls are destined to a certain Lucio, who, thinking of turning to Peppe, declares that he misses his kisses. Everyone therefore thinks that Lele has a homosexual extramarital affair. To this discovery the friends react very strongly, especially Cosimo, apparently sorry that Lele never revealed his alleged homosexuality even to his best friends, but in reality exposing a profound homophobia. Later, Peppe reveals the exchange of telephones and thus his own homosexuality, which is also why he lost his teaching position, and declares that he will not present Lucio to his friends as he wants to protect him from their reactions. Finally it turns out that years earlier Carlotta, while driving drunk, caused an accident in which a man died, although it was Lele who took responsibility for the murder to avoid being imprisoned by his wife and thus the ruin of their family.

At the end of the evening, it turns out that in reality the game of mobile phones never happened, following a decisive opposition from Rocco: the guests return home, after what was an ordinary dinner with friends. Everyone returns to their own lies: Peppe is excluded from a five-a-side football match with an excuse from Lele, Cosimo and Rocco and, at the request of his friends, he promises that at the next opportunity he will present them the non-existent Lucilla (in reality his companion Lucio); Cosimo, in the car with Bianca, runs through the messages of lover Marika and responds to a message from Eva, who in the meantime removes the earrings received as a gift from Cosimo himself; Carlotta put on the panties that her lover had asked her to take off and Lele secretly looked at the photo she had received from her lover.
