Hugh Allan (7 June 1862 - 24 October 1909) was a Scottish painter and potter. Also known by the names Ugolin and Ugolino, he established Allander pottery at Milngavie.[1]

Life

His father was Hugh Allan [Snr] (c. 1814 - 1878), a brick work manager from Stirling.

His mother was Margaret Dalrymple Binnie (born c. 1827) from Stirling. Hugh [Snr] and Margaret married on 29 July 1845 in Glasgow.

Hugh Allan was born on 7 June 1862 in Tradeston, Glasgow.[2] He became versed in pottery and he was known by the pseudonym Ugolin.[3]

He stayed at 18 India Street, Glasgow in the 1901 census.[4]

Also in 1904-05 electoral register at 18 India Street[5]

His sister Jessie Russell Allan was also an artist.

Death

He died on 24 October 1909 in Milton, Glasgow. His mother's surname was incorrectly recorded as Burnie.

His usual address was noted as 105 Hill Street in Garnethill. The value of his estate was £64, 8 shillings and 3 pence.[6]
