Early life and education
A.R. Ashok Kumar was born and raised in Tamil Nadu. After he passed class 10 he was curious to learn cinematography, which in time provided him with a career direction. After he finished his schooling he joined Government Arts College for Men, Nandanam, but after only one year he left and joined cinematographer Nirav Shah, where he learned cinematography.
Career
After leaving Government Arts College for Men, Nandanam, he started his career in Chennai where he assisted cinematographer Nirav Shah. Soon was working in film across genres, action, thriller and drama. He started as Assistant Cinematographer in films Madrasapattinam,Deiva Thirumagal,Vettai and Thaandavam.Associate Cameraman in films Thalaivaa and soon 1st Assistant Cinematographer in films Saivam and Kaaviya Thalaivan. In 2015 he started working as Camera Operator with cinematographer M. Sukumar and worked in films Dharma Durai,Veera Sivaji,Sketch and Kumki 2. He is presently working as director of photography in upcoming trilingual film Haathi Mere Saathi (upcoming film), directed by Prabhu Solomon.
