Cornwall County Council and Cornwall Council

The template needs to distinguish between elections to Cornwall County Council, and to Cornwall Council. DuncanHill (talk) 20:56, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Does it? They cover the same area and are effectively the same body, albeit with expanded powers. Number 57 20:59, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, not the same body at all as CCC was abolished and replaced by CC which also replace the district/borough councils. DuncanHill (talk) 21:57, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In legal terms it is a separate organisation, but in reality it's the same organisation as the previous county council headed by the same CEO in the same HQ, but also having taken on the district functions. Number 57 22:16, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There were no Cornwall Council elections prior to 2009, and it is misleading to pretend, as this template does, that there were. DuncanHill (talk) 22:26, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have made a suggested new version in my sandbox. DuncanHill (talk) 22:45, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe it's misleading. A similar example would be {{Manchester United F.C. seasons}}, which doesn't differentiate between when the club was called Newton Heath and when it was Manchester United. But let's get a third opinion from Doc77can who has also done a good amount of work on the templates. Cheers, Number 57 11:51, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not similar at all, that appears from our article to be a renaming of a business, not the abolition by law of a council and the creation of a new one with significantly different powers and significantly different wards. DuncanHill (talk) 15:19, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Let's wait for another opinion. Number 57 15:34, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I would rather not have the template at all, than have one which is wrong and misleading. DuncanHill (talk) 15:56, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's a bit of an over-reaction. Perhaps worth noting that the template is consistent with the Cornwall Council elections article in terms of what it includes. Number 57 16:05, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, and that page needs to be split, and I was going to do it alongside my suggested changes to the template. DuncanHill (talk) 16:08, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's unnecessary. Number 57 16:10, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Because you want to mislead readers into thinking that Cornwall Council has existed for longer than it actuially has, and that Cornwall County Council never existed? DuncanHill (talk) 16:11, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I don't think it's misleading; I think the article explains adequately what happened, and I think the two councils are similar enough to be considered effectively the same entity. Number 57 16:12, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well my suggested change to the template makes it much clearer for the vast majority of readers who don't already know the history, without removing any information from it. DuncanHill (talk) 16:14, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Isles of Scilly

Template needs elections back to the establishment of the council in 1890. I do not have to hand a reference for their dates. DuncanHill (talk) 21:04, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
