I would've picked Creature from the Black Lagoon from 1954 - - - an entire two years prior - - - as the point when horror supposedly took over from SF.
Also, I think the phrase of "began to take over" is a little strong. I wouldn't say "take over" but would say "began to emerge as a strong movie genre in its own right;" especially considering when British movie studio Hammer Films basically specialized in the horror genre starting in 1955. 2600:8800:784:8F00:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 02:46, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
