@Silver seren: I have some trouble with how this statement is worded as the DSM-5 was released on May 15, 2013 - only 2 weeks after the publication of the book! Was there an update to the book in a later printing? It seems a bit of a loaded statement to make. – The Grid (talk) 03:37, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

The transition to the DSM 5 was a years long process where alterations were made to entries and announced long before the full, official version was released. Since it involved a lot of discussion and debate among the APA committees and the experts they called in on various disease/disorder fields to give input. The DSM 5 had a direct impact on how the information within it was utilized in the medical community far before the 2013 release. It was the earlier change to how autism was recognized (and announced as such) that led to the misapplication of what is included under autism from the mid to late 2000's.
