Isn't the plot summary here a gigantic spoiler which will ruin the shocking effect of the book for anyone subsequently reading the novel?

When Shinar's brother was said to be named "Baz", was that his actual name, or was he just using the name the Macedonians called the Afghans as a name of defiance, like when Maximus in Gladiator at first claims to the Emperor his name is "Gladiator"?
