Circular?, Dedicated article?

@Dsvyas: Many of these newspapers/online publications use and sometimes copy wikipedia, and I am concerned that this may be a case of WP:CIRCULAR since the 2016 article language is too close to the old wikipedia article.

The newspaper (April 2016).... Thapna, (...), is the New Year as per the Rajasthani and Haryanvi calendar. Homas (yagnas) are held at home and people greet each other by saying 'Nuvan baras ri badhaiyan'.
The old wikipedia article (pre-2016)... In Rajasthani and Haryanavi language people greet each other by saying "Nuvan baras ri badhaiyan". On this day people do homas (Yajna).

Please note that neither Rajasthan nor Haryana governments mention this festival in their official calendars, to the best of my checking, which is very odd for a traditional new year that we are claiming is a festival observed by their own local populations. I could not find any scholarly publications on this either. Do you know of any scholarly publication or pre-wikipedia era source to address the WP:CIRCULAR concerns? If we can identify appropriate WP:RS, I have no objections to restoring this article. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 23:36, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Utcursch: would appreciate your guidance / wisdom in these cases? FYI from Rajasthan government calendar, Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 23:45, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, this seems dodgy to me. I can't find any mention of this in a pre-2012 source (that is, before this article was created). I tried searching in Devanagari (थापना, थपना, ठापना, ठपना) - can't find anything dated before 2012.
I agree that the ToI link is not sufficient: I've seen several cases of Indian newspapers plagiarizing content from Wikipedia. Most don't have high journalistic standards in general (this is my favourite).
Pinging the creator @Hanvant to see if there are any decent sources or alternative spellings that we might have overlooked. If there are none, even the redirect should be deleted. utcursch | talk 00:20, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Utcursch: Agreed. I support the suggestion that if reasonable RS is not forthcoming, the redirect should also be deleted. The contribution history of the editor who created it, and some associated admin warnings, suggest we may need to do so. If redirect delete is the way we go, please consider moving this discussion to Talk:Indian New Year's days before the delete. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 16:33, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ms Sarah Welch:, you are right, I now realise that the ToI article was simple copy of this article here and hence it cannot be accepted as a reliable source or reference. I have checked with my friends from Rajasthan, and they confirm that their new year is indeed the day mentioned here, i.e. according to Hindu calendar Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, however I failed to find any reference for that as well.-- DhavalTalk 10:35, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"Chaitra Shukla Pratipada" just states the "name of the month, bright half of that month, and its commencement", while "Thapna" is an "alleged festival name". Two different things. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 13:32, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
