The notion that holistic science could be considered part of systems science might need reconsideration. Jan Smuts' presentation, in his Presidential Address, of the contribution of Holism to the emerging scientific world view to the 1931 Centenary Conference of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, could represent a watershed in the philosophy of science as well as scientific methodology. It both provides the container for systems science, complexity science, as also quantum physics, as well as synthesizing those scientific disciplines.
