History

The history section neglects to give the former name of this oblast. Did it have a name previously? Dr. Dan (talk) 00:40, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The oblast was established in 1934 when Urals Oblast was split into three brand-new oblasts (Sverldovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Ob-Irtysh). Urals Oblast, in turn, was established in 1923 from four former governorates (Yekaterinburg, Perm, Tyumen, and Chelyabinsk). There is no direct connection between old Yekaterinburg Governorate and 1934 Sverdlovsk Oblast (which never had any different name). Hope this helps.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 13:36, March 30, 2009 (UTC)
