This article really needs some kind of introduction IMO. It jumps right into "basics" - what basics? What is sound synthesis? --166.70.188.26 (talk) 15:59, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This page definitely needs restructuring. The current edit is informal, and far too specific in the sense that it does not attempt to generalise any of the notions of sound synthesis, but describe some of the more common approaches to synthesizing sound. 81.187.252.174 (talk) 11:58, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that the introduction is inaccurate. The original motivation for the development of synthesizers was not to reproduce acoustic sounds, but to produce effects impossible in acoustic instruments--sirens, trills, and short attack/long decay sounds. Bob Moog and Don Buchla both cite a desire for non-acoustic sounds as a motivating factor for the development of synthesizers.SanDiegoFreeway (talk) 08:01, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
