Talk:Radio Cairo

If anyone with minimum familiarity with both topics saw Radio Cairo and Voice of the Arabs redirect to the same page, he would immediately notice the faulty redirect.

Radio Cairo was a name for a shortwave international radio service, broadcast to many parts of the world in many languages, including Arabic.

Most of Egypt state radio stations are based in the capital, Cairo. It won't make them all called Radio Cairos.

Voice of the Arabs has an announcement, "هنا القاهرة", which means here is Cairo.

See the official website for the Egyptian Radio and Television Union, the section of its radios.

Now user:GB fan and user:Emir of Wikipedia agreed on insisting to leave the confusing redirect. Does it mean that the wrong redirect can never be deleted? --Mahmudmasri (talk) 12:18, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice I never insisted on leaving it. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 13:47, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion#Reasons for deleting #2: The redirect might cause confusion. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 12:26, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I did not insist on leaving the redirect. I declined the speedy delete because speedy deletion is only used in clear cut circumstances. I said in my decline of your speedy deletion request, WP:R3 is the closest speedy deletion criterion to what you said in your nomination. The problem is that R3 only applies to recently created redirects, this redirect was created in 2012. As I also said in my edit summary the way to move forward with deletion of the redirect is to take it to WP:RFD which is shorthand for Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. -- GB fan 12:27, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Mahmudmasri, just to make things clear. My decline has absolutely nothing to do with the merits of the redirect. It only has to do with applicable speedy deletion criterion. I do not know anything of the topic and am not inclined to learn about it at this time but your comments above about why the redirect is wrong support the deletion of the redirect, but that can only be decided at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. -- GB fan 13:29, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
