From what I understand this is how it went

• 1940 season Steelers between 1940-41 seasons Ironmen 1941 season Steelers

• 1933-39 Pirates
• 1940 Steelers

• team is sold to Thompson after the 1940 season he renames the team "Ironmen"

• Rooney reaquires the team during the offseason between 1940-41 and renames the team Steelers.

• 1941-present Steelers
