New Source on 25A found
I found an article on NY 25A. Long Island Magazine(Sunday Newsday): Route 25A -- A Personal Journey; November 19, 1981. It could be useful for somethings in here. ----DanTD (talk) 14:42, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
North Hempstead Turnpike
This section has the weasel phrase "some people feel." In fact the entire route of NY 25A was the North Hempstead Turnpike from Queens Plaza to Wading River. From that point the turnpike followed Sound Avenue, New Middle Road, Riverhead Greenport Road, North Road, and Main Road (NY25) all the way to Orient Point. The old Rand McNally auto trail maps such as the 1925 US atlas show the road marked in this way. Also, what is today 25A was the original path of NY 25 according to these maps. - Parsa (talk) 17:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I've got an image of a North Hempstead Turnpike street name sign at Berry Hill Road in Oyster Bay Cove right here. I'm going to try to get the one of Northern Boulevard at NY 108, although I wasn't able to see anything from the Google Maps views of the intersection with NY 106. Incidentally, the west side of the Route 25A-Berry Hill Road intersection is where the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway was supposed to run. ----DanTD (talk) 14:53, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
More on North Hempstead Turnpike
A little more on the "North Hempstead Turnpike;" There's some evidence that it was a pre-automotive turnpike, one of which was in the form of the historic Roslyn East Gate Toll House in Greenvale, which has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1977. A couple of old maps of Queens I've seen indicate that the turnpike included part of what is today part of Kissena Boulevard and a few other streets I forgot about. ----DanTD (talk) 14:48, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
