Kinda wondering if there is a point to this. All the new characters in MGS4 can be counted with one hand (Drebin, Sunny and the B&B Corps). Jonny2x4 (talk) 00:31, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After writing up reprising characters, we could change this list to add the link to List of recurring characters in the Metal Gear series and make it look similar to List of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater characters. You are also forgetting Jonathan and Ed. (They don't have a big background story, but still.) -- Revth (talk) 03:23, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Either way, some parts need to be rewritten. Right now, it looks something out of a fansite. Jonny2x4 (talk) 03:41, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Each reprising character section should look like how I just re-wrote "Old Snake". The Old Snake section could still be expanded, but in-depth info should be added to Solid Snake. Morgan695 (talk) 04:05, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think Zero and Big Boss, as well as Psycho Mantis, needs to be in a separate section, since they were omitted from all preview materials and their appearances are mainly glorified cameos.. Jonny2x4 (talk) 23:19, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Big Boss and Zero would obviously be discluded from preview materials, as their inclusion in said materials would spoil large chunks of the game. I don't know why a previous comment on this I made didn't go through, but I believe that denoting these characters as "Special appearances" diminishes their importance. Look at it this way - Solid Snake in the Snake vs. Money game in MGS3 was a "special appearance". Big Boss in the main MGS4 story line was a character appearance. I think Psycho Mantis should be placed under the B&B Corps (as he does control them, and therefore has plot signifigance), and Zero should be placed under Supporting Characters. Big Boss could go under Major Characters or Supporting; personally, I think he'd fit better under Major Characters. Morgan695 (talk) 01:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Summarized list.

Here's the summarized list. Testing this to see if this list can be merged into the main article.

Old Snake
Formerly known as Solid Snake, he reprises his role as the protagonist and main playable character of the game. Aging rapidly due to advanced cellular degeneration, Snake undergoes his final mission to terminate Liquid Ocelot.
Liquid Ocelot
The main antagonist. Formerly known as Revolver Ocelot. He was an agent of The Patriots until he lost his right arm in Metal Gear Solid and received a replacement transplant from Liquid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2, causing Liquid's personality to take over his mind. In Metal Gear Solid 4, his Liquid persona seems to have taken full possession of his mind, and he forms the private military company Outer Heaven to destroy The Patriots.
Otacon
Solid Snake's sidekick since the first Metal Gear Solid, returns to assist him once again via Codec. He builds several of the equipment used by Snake on his mission, such as the Octocamo suit and Metal Gear Mk. II, Snake's robotic companion.
Roy Campbell
Solid Snake's commanding officer in Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear Solid. He assigns Snake on an unofficial mission to assassinate Liquid Ocelot and foil his insurrection. To protect Raiden and Rosemary's child from The Patriots, he arranges a fake marriage with Rosemary and pretends to be the father of Raiden's son. This ploy causes a rift between Campbell and Meryl, who is now aware that Campbell is her biological father.
Meryl Silverburgh
The heroine from Metal Gear Solid, she is now the leader of Rat Patrol Team 01, a division of the USACIDC sent to investigate Liquid Ocelot's PMC activities. She is now aware that Roy Campbell is her true father, but resents him due to his marriage with Rosemary.
Johnny
Nicknamed "Akiba". A former Genome Soldier, Johnny was the guard who was stripped by Meryl in the first Metal Gear Solid. He serves as the electronic expert of Meryl's Rat Patrol unit. Like in the original, he suffers from constant diarrhea. He is the only member of the team that was not injected with nanomachines, which becomes a benefit after the SOP system is taken over by Liquid Ocelot. He reveals he has been infatuated with Meryl since their first encounter and they end up being married in the end of the game.
Jonathan and Ed
The other two members of Rat Patrol. Jonathan is a hulking Korean-American who serves as the team's heavy weapons specialist and has a mohawk in the shape of an exclamation mark; while Ed is an African-American who serves as the team's sniper and Meryl's second-in-command. They are named after the main characters from Policenauts, from Meryl originally debuted as a supporting character.
Raiden
The protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2. After the events of the Big Shell mission, Raiden ended his relationship with Rosemary and disappeared after rescuing Sunny from the Patriots. He returns in the game outfitted in a Cyborg Ninja exoskeleton and helps Snake during his mission.
Naomi Hunter
The FOXHOUND medic who injected Snake with the FOXDIE virus in Metal Gear Solid. She has been kidnapped by Liquid Ocelot and forced to help him hijack the SOP system. She is rescued by Snake in South America and assists him and his crew thorough the remainder of the story: becoming romantically involved with Otacon and develops a friendship with Sunny.
Vamp
The sole surviving member of Dead Cell from Metal Gear Solid 2 appears as a mercenary working for Liquid Ocelot, who develops a rivalry with Raiden. His apparent immortality is explained as being caused by rapid-healing nanomachines in his body. This benefit is removed by Snake through an injection of a specialized syringe prepared by Naomi, allowing Raiden to mortally wound him.
Big Mama
The new identity of EVA, the Chinese spy who assisted Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3. After failing to fulfill her mission in Snake Eater, she was invited by Big Boss to form part of The Patriots and then became the surrogate mother who gave birth to Solid and Liquid. After Big Boss's supposed death, Big Mama conspired with Ocelot to kill the other Patriots to avenge him, leading to the deaths of Para-Medic (Dr. Clark) and Sigint (Donald Anderson). She is now the leader of the resistance group, Paradise Lost, which opposes the Patriots.
Drebin 893
A weapons launderer who assists Snake. Usually accompanied by his diaper-wearing pet monkey, Little Gray.
Sunny
The daughter of Olga Gurlukovich from Metal Gear Solid 2. After the Big Shell Incident, Sunny was rescued from the Patriots by Raiden and taken under the custody of Snake and Otacon. She is a gifted computer programmer who, along with Naomi Hunter, designs FOXALIVE, the virus which Snake uses to disable the Patriots' AIs.
Mei Ling
The data analyst who saved the player's progress in the first Metal Gear Solid. She is now the Captain of the recommissioned vessel USS Missouri and lends her support to Snake and Raiden in their assault of Shadow Moses.
Rosemary
Raiden's former girlfriend from Metal Gear Solid 2, she appears as a psychological counselor in a combat stress platoon, offering her advice to Snake on dealing with stress. She gave birth to Raiden's son, Little John, but hid the child from him and then had Campbell posed as the child's father after arranging a fake marriage.
Big Boss
Believed to had been killed by Solid Snake in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Big Boss is revealed to be alive, having been placed in an artificially-induced coma following his supposed death. His burnt body has been reconstructed with spare parts from Liquid's and Solidus' remains. He appears in the ending to reconcile with Solid Snake before dying for the third and final time.
Zero
Big Boss's commanding officer and close friend in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. After the events of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, he forms the Patriots along with Big Boss, but a fallout between the two leads him to plot Big Boss's downfall by using his cloned son, Solid Snake. He then construct the five AIs to succeed him. By the time of Metal Gear Solid 4, Zero is over 100-years-old and in a vegetative state.

Merging into main article.

I don't see much purpose to this article. Other than Sunny, Drebin, and the B&B Corps., every character is a character from a previous game. This article will basically consist of MGS4 plot summary that might as well be added to the main MGS4 article. Jonny2x4 (talk) 02:37, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's all well and good, but there remains the problem of including character specific plot information, particularly the background information of the B&B Corps, so I think it would be appropriate to continue the page with only the characters you mentioned as to not clutter the game's main article. We then could add the reappearing characters to the recurring characters article. Sound good? Kageryushin (talk) 03:58, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The backstory of the B&B Corps are not really that important. The only real notable thing about the B&B Corps is that they're boss character and that they happen to be modeled after real-life women. Just giving a character a tragic backstory and summarizing it here is not enough to make it notable. The ideal is to have a "characters" sub-section in the main article and if it becomes too bloated, split it into its own list. Jonny2x4 (talk) 12:35, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
