Content

I moved this content from the disambig page for Kaitain and cleaned it up, but am not sure if it is accurate — in particular, the exports sound odd to me. TAnthony 21:03, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone tell where this content is from? Not much of the specifics ring any bells; obviously if it's from the Dune Encyclopedia it should be cut. TAnthony 03:52, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I knew too. Could be information from the Dune prequeals. I'll try to find a copy of the Dune Encyclopedia and check--Eldarone 06:23, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit confused about the references to the present, EG "The Emperor currently resides in the Opal Palace." According to the canon, the books are set thousands of years after our time. Is this written from the POV of someone in Shaddam IV's time -- and if so, why? --BlackTerror 03:56, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to add the following section to this Talk page after my edit of this article today, it should sort of answer your question. TAnthony 04:16, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed sections

I added the Corrinth section today, and I believe all information there is carefully referenced back to the appropriate Prelude to Dune novels. The Luxury of Kaitain and Imperial Opal Palace sections were part of the original article and are the object of the content dispute. I don't know where all of the specifics came from, but they seem like they're from some non-canon source; I have a copy of the Dune Encyclopedia but there isn't an entry for the Opal Palace so it'll take a little more research to see if that's where this info is from (in which case I'll cut it out, or perhaps reference anything significant back to the Encylopedia in a separate section designating it as non-canon or whatever). In the meantime, I'm going to go through the Prelude books and rewrite these sections with whatever info is there. I don't think there are many Kaitain specifics in the original series, but I'll scan those text files too. TAnthony 04:16, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm moving the disputed sections here; as far as I can tell, none of these details are from any of the novels, and these Emperors' names seem to be from the Dune Encylopedia. We can add items beack into the article as they can be referenced. TAnthony 06:12, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Luxury of Kaitain

Kaitain is the largest and most luxurious garden planet of verdant rainforests, breathtaking savannah, magnificent rock formations, and crystal-clear, sapphire-blue oceans. The architecture is resplendent, nearly gaudy, in its excesses, the result of many Padishah Emperors trying to outdo their predecessors. Major natural landmarks include the Hagal Lakes, named after their crystalline reefs which many have claimed challenge even the beauty of Hagal quartz; the Imperial Ridge, a chain of lush green hilly outcrops with their stunning views over the southern plains.

Kaitain is home to a number of city-sized palatial buildings, spaceports and impressive palaces, including the Imperial Opal Palace located on the top of Mount Corrin, the tallest peak on the planet and destination of many brave adventurers. Its primary exports are minerals, whale furs, champagne, precious gemstones, fine furs and rare metals used to manufacture Heighliners, artillery, ornithopters, and ormi-tank missiles.

This one includes the Arbour Palace of the Padishah Emperor Elrood Corrino II and the Primus Palace of the Padishah Emperor Saudir Corrino IV. Although many of the palatial buildings are maintained by the Imperial Trust for Historical Preservation the Padishah Emperor is free to inhabit any he wishes.

At the beginning of his reign Emperor Shaddam IV spent his time in the Mallard Palace. It has been built by the Padishah Emperor Corrin XI and named after the small wild duck found living amongst the inhospitable foundation work. However, His Majesty has since lived in no less than four of these impressive and intimidating monuments. The Emperor currently resides in the Opal Palace. The Four Spire Palace of the Padishah Emperor Ezhar Corrino VII, built in 5290 B.G. and it's one of the oldest surviving structures on Kaitain with its golden dome illuminated at nighttime. The Primus Palace of the Padishah Emperor Saudir Corrino IV finished in 7092 B.G. and restored in 7081 B.G. after fire destroyed the south and west wings.

Imperial Opal Palace

The current residence of the Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV is located on Mount Corrin — the gigantic mountain that overlooked Corrinth, the planet Kaitain’s capital — along the Imperial Boulevard, an avenue lined with the large statues of the previous Corrino Emperors.

The Palace was constructed in 6032 B.G. or A.G. during the reign of the Padishah Emperor Elrood Corrino VI who only enjoyed a year of the impressive State Rooms, Imperial chambers, and extensive landscaped gardens before he was assassinated.

After Dune

Is the fate of Kaitain after the events of Dune ever mentioned? For that matter, if the Atreides made Arrakis the new capital, is an explanation given for the exile of the Corrinos to Salusa Secundus? It seems to me (not having read the books recently) like something of an inconsistency; if there is a stated explanation, it should be addressed. Leushenko (talk) 12:58, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Corrinos are sent to Salusa Secundus because it is a prison planet. Paul needed somewhere safe to keep them. I don't belive Kaitan is mentioned again, but I don't see how this is an inconsistancy; Kaitan is no longer important to the story. ATOE (talk) 16:53, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

This article is sourced entirely to works of fiction. Is there any reason not to redirect to List_of_Dune_planets per WP:PLOT? Sergeant Cribb (talk) 11:43, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
