MWP mix up?
There are a few mentions of river flow during the Medieval Warm Period (~1000 years ago) which are not referenced. Could this perhaps be a math error? The early Holocene (~10,000 years ago) has well-documented wetter conditions in the Lake Eyre basin (e.g. Magee et al. 2004, and references therein). Reference: Magee, J. W. , Miller, G. H., Spooner, N. A., Questiaux,D.; Insolation-forcing implications and unexpected Holocene failure.
