Nice try, but this article is severely flawed from the start, and I'm inclined to nominate it for Votes for Deletion.

The problem most easily solved is that it fails to reference the passage from Galatians 5 that enumerates these fruit, discuss it in context, etc.

The more serious problem is that the rest of it is seriously POV. It is opinion and interpretation that is not attributed to any author, general religious sect or movement, or denomination. Lest someone protest that it's just the plain obvious truth that "every Christian" knows, let me suggest that:

  • the way to grow in the fruits is not through increased intellectual understanding. This was part of the main debate between Gregory Palamas and Barlaam of Calabria in the 1300s, and the Hesychast Councils ruled in favor of Palamas.
  • Salvation is a process, not a one time instantaneous event. This is the general teaching of the Eastern Orthodox Church at the very least, whereas protestant evangelicals tend to talk about it more as a one time event.

I don't see how this can be NPOV'd, or even fleshed out to be more than a stub. It doesn't look like a topic that really needs an encyclopedia article. Any thoughts or reasons not to delete this? Wesley 04:05, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?

On my talk page, MikeJ9919 broached the possibility of merging this article with Holy Spirit. That makes a great deal of sense to me; maybe even make it a subsection there? Any other thoughts?

Merged to Holy Spirit as a subsection, as I saw no objection here. Did some more severe NPOVing in the process.--MikeJ9919 21:56, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
