The Province of the Anglican Communion in America is the Episcopal Church; we can't put references on redirects, but I can put it here: [1]. See also [2].

Alternatively, this could point to a disambiguation page listing the Provinces in the New World. I don't much care which. Tb (talk) 05:51, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would favor a disambiguation page listing the Provinces in North and South America and the Caribbean, but I can live with the current version as well.--Bhuck (talk) 13:39, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I think that's a deal. The only remaining issues are:
  • Scope (Geographic): Should it be North America, or all the Americas? Given the various existing redirects we would point at it (including this one), I think all the Americas is right.
  • Scope (Ecclesiastical): Should it include only provinces recognized by the Anglican Communion Office, or the various continuing groups too? I think the latter, to avoid a continuing edit war that would be likely to ensue the other way.
  • Name: If the above is right, how about Anglicanism in the Americas? Tb (talk) 18:15, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a good plan. Perhaps one should only list the churches which have 5% or more of the total Anglicans in the Americas (how many are there total?), and then say that there are various smaller splinter groups as well (or the threshhold could be 1% or 10% or whatever). Or one could have a text about when and how Anglicanism came to the Americas, and how it spread through various areas. For example, the cathedral in St. John's (Newfoundland) is supposed to be the first Anglican church in the New World, but I think it is younger than Jamestown--did the colonists in Jamestown not have a church? There are very few comparisons between Canadian Anglicanism and U.S. Anglicanism, for example (and what is the history of Argentine or Mexican Anglicanism, and what parallels do they have?), and this article could be an appropriate place for something like that. But that would require a fair amount of research, too, probably. As I said, I can live with the status quo, too.--Bhuck (talk) 12:00, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
