This is the talk page for Miniapolis, who is proud to be a Wikipedia editor. Although I can be reached by email, I prefer keeping discussions on-wiki as much as possible. Due to time constraints, I no longer accept direct copyedit requests; please list articles requiring copyediting for GAN, FAC and the like on the Guild of Copy Editors request page (and consider pitching in with the GOCE, which can always use more help!). Since I take the occasional wikibreak, feel free to undo any administrative action I've taken as you see fit.

Thank you for your comprehensive and bold copyedit. I am really grateful for it. I made some minor changes. I would appreciate if you could checque them. Have a nice day. Borsoka (talk) 04:18, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words. Your changes are improvements, for the most part, although I question two of them. The word "pall", as used in the caption, is virtually unknown in English; I didn't know what it was until I found that Pall (liturgy) redirects to altar cloth, which is generally understood. "Bishop Saint Gerard" reads oddly to me, since it includes a job title and an honorific; I think it should be "Bishop Gerard", "Saint Gerard" or ideally (per MOS:HONORIFIC) "Gerard". Anyway, good luck again with GA and all the best, Miniapolis 15:10, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rivette

Hi, Thanks and great job on Jacques Rivette so far. Just for the sake of mentioning it, I do still want to expand the "Themes" section, adding more info on his use of mysteries, conspiracy theory and the fantasy and theatrical side of his works. So if you think anything already in this section is redundant or a repetition please feel free to trim.--Deoliveirafan (talk) 05:22, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Will do; I hope to finish the article today, and will ping you when it's done. Happy New Year and all the best, Miniapolis 17:39, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing a great job. Hope that you enjoyed the article. I am going to revert one edit, but please re-revert it if you think my reasoning is too close to original research. It is the very last sentence of the article. I personally suspect that the coincidence of Parolini dying the day after Ehrenstein posted about Rivette's health is unlikely. She died in Italy on the 21st, which could have been the 20th where Ehrenstein was and I think its possible that he (or someone) was aware of Rivette's condition but sat on it to prevent Parolini from finding out. The email on Ehrenstein's blog is no longer active, so I could not ask him abut this, but I'd like the dates to speak for themselves since I'm not sure what time zone Ehrenstein was at that time. Hope you're cool with that and happy new year.--Deoliveirafan (talk) 02:56, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, feel free. I only phrased it that way for stylistic reasons, because sometimes prose falls into an on-this-date, on-that-date pattern that reads a little flat. It's an excellent article, and my husband (a film buff) is going to watch a couple of Rivette's films :-). Happy New Year and all the best, Miniapolis 05:02, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Walter Baets

4 Months ago you deleted Walter Baets citing "undisclosed COI violating WP's TOS". A new user has recently been working on a draft at Draft:Walter Baets. Do you have any thoughts on the situation surrounding this draft and possibly ToS violations? Winner 42 Talk to me! 02:18, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This article troubles me, primarily because of the formally-undisclosed paid editing by ShaneRothko101 (who has apparently returned as Rothko225). The COI is as yet formally undisclosed; it's mentioned in one of ShaneRothko101's unblock requests, but that doesn't constitute formal disclosure with {{Connected contributor (paid)}} on the draft talk page. As for notability, I checked the sources:
  • 1 and 2 are directory listings.
  • 3 is first-party, published by the subject's de facto employer.
  • 4 is a passing mention in a self-published blog, the equivalent of a press release.
  • 5 is about the school, not the subject of the draft.
  • 6 and 7 are the same webpage.
  • 8 is the subject's employer, and 9 and 10 are the subject's commercial website which, IMO, constitutes spam in this context.

The only source which may be reliable for demonstrating notability is the seed.uno webpage (6 and 7), which—if reliable enough—may indicate that the subject meets WP:NACADEMICS criterion #5. Hope this helps; trying to keep advertising out of an online encyclopedia is such a timesink. All the best, Miniapolis 03:36, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 6

Newsletter • January 2016

Hello there! Happy to be writing this newsletter once more. This month:

What comes next

Some good news: the Wikimedia Foundation has renewed WikiProject X. This means we can continue focusing on making WikiProjects better.

During our first round of work, we created a prototype WikiProject based on two ideas: (1) WikiProjects should clearly present things for people to do, and (2) The content of WikiProjects should be automated as much as possible. We launched pilots, and for the most part it works. But this approach will not work for the long term. While it makes certain aspects of running a WikiProject easier, it makes the maintenance aspects harder.

We are working on a major overhaul that will address these issues. New features will include:

  • Creating WikiProjects by simply filling out a form, choosing which reports you want to generate for your project. This will work with existing bots in addition to the Reports Bot reports. (Of course, you can also have sections curated by humans.)
  • One-click button to join a WikiProject, with optional notifications.
  • Be able to define your WikiProject's scope within the WikiProject itself by listing relevant pages and categories, eliminating the need to tag every talk page with a banner. (You will still be allowed to do that, of course. It just won't be required.)

The end goal is a collaboration tool that can be used by WikiProjects but also by any edit-a-thon or group of people that want to coordinate on improving articles. Though implemented as an extension, the underlying content will be wikitext, meaning that you can continue to use categories, templates, and other features as you normally would.

This will take a lot of work, and we are just getting started. What would you like to see? I invite you to discuss on our talk page.

Until next time,

Harej (talk) 02:53, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's a nasty business, and I don't think you deserved what you got; it confirms my belief that COI and paid editing may be the undoing of WP. Encyclopedia Brittanica editors are compensated by the encyclopedia, not by the subjects of the articles they write—a crucial difference. Moving sanctions from 2015 to 2016

Hello Miniapolis. Recently you made this edit of DSLOG-related files. Could you explain the thinking? I had always assumed that the sanctions were logged in the year recorded. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 21:00, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I copied (not moved) existing sanctions—indef topic bans and the like—from the 2015 to the 2016 logs per a request by Callanecc on clerks-l. They're still on the 2015 log. All the best, Miniapolis 21:10, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Miniapolis I just meant the headers not the actual sanctions. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 22:31, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And I apologize for the misunderstanding; I thought you also wanted a clerk to copy the sanctions still in effect, time permitting. All the best, Miniapolis 23:49, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
... and now (after checking the diff) I realize that you meant all the headers, even those on empty sections. Sorry about that. Miniapolis 01:38, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Policy discussion in progress

There is a policy discussion in progress at the Manual of Style which affects the capitalization of People Like Us, a question in which you previously participated. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. — LlywelynII 12:21, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I appreciate your work on Blair House, but I'm having to repair a lot of your edits that incorporate phrasing that doesn't use proper English or, in some cases, just doesn't make sense. For instance, you changed -

  • In the early 1980s, Congress appropriated $9.7 million for the property's further renovation and improvement. Federally appropriated funds were augmented with $5 million in private donations.

- to this -

  • During the early 1980s Congress appropriated $9.7 million for further renovation and improvement, and to the federal funds were added with $5 million in private donations.

I started trying to fix these one by one but it would take so long to comb through the entire article to locate instances of the incorporation of unusual or broken phrasing I'm going to just roll back your edits en masse and then try to restore each of your edits one by one. This process will probably take awhile due to the sheer size and volume. I just wanted to let you know I'm not trying to edit war since the mass undo might seem that way. Thanks! LavaBaron (talk) 19:08, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. My phrasing wasn't the best in that sentence, but I've been trying to improve the flow of choppy sentence structure (in addition to cleaning up and moving free images to Commons, adding alt text, combining too-short sections and trying to eliminate text sandwiched between images). I'd rephrase the sentence you cited as "During the early 1980s Congress appropriated $9.7 million for further renovation and improvement, and private donations added $5 million to the federal funds." I'm doing my best, but since you're dissatisfied I'll mark it  Partly done on WP:GOCE/REQ and not where I left off. Good luck and all the best, Miniapolis 19:23, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You also, among others, changed "The President's Guest House is larger than the White House and, unlike that building, is closed to the public." to "The President's Guest House, larger than the White House, is (unlike the latter) closed to the public." As a general grammar rule, placing two paranthetical expressions into a short sentence becomes very confusing for the reader and should be avoided. Anyway, I think I've restored about 75-percent of your edits, and I'll keep working at it shortly. Thanks for your amicability. LavaBaron (talk) 19:32, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
