Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- King of Arms (currently a redirect to King of arms) → King of arms (move · discuss) – per MOSJOBTITLES Primergrey (talk) 20:05, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hunawng (24°49′N 94°53′E) (currently a redirect to Hulaung) → Hulaung (move · discuss) – incorrect place name, based on the map and lack of place code a second Hunaung in the vicinity of this village's coordinates.
- Note: I can make Hunawng a redirect to the other Hunawng/Hunaung after this move; overall there are three villages with similar names I'm attempting WP:NATURAL disambiguation with based on the english romanizations used by the two sources I found (the two "Hulaung"s have different Burmese names, so it's a romanization choice to disambiguate) EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 19:58, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- The Sleepwalkers (Clark book) (currently a redirect to The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914) → The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914 (move · discuss) – Per WP:SUBTITLE, WP:NATURALDIS, and WP:NCDAB, natural disambiguation is preferable to parenthetical disambiguation. Malerisch (talk) 21:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- SkyDrive (eVTOL) (currently a redirect to SkyDrive (company)) → SkyDrive (move · discuss) – There is only one article titled SkyDrive, so the disambiguator is unnecessary. SkyDrive is currently a dab page, but the only other page it points to is OneDrive, which was formerly named SkyDrive. Once moved, there should be a hatnote at the top of SkyDrive directing readers to OneDrive. voorts (talk/contributions) 22:41, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Contested technical requests
- Guy_de_Téramond (currently a redirect to Guy de Téramond Peralta) → Guy de Téramond Peralta (move · discuss) – to avoid confusion of this biographical page with identical name of French writer in the French Wikipedia https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_de_Téramond 81.111.130.118 (talk) 12:43, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Unless and until the French writer has an article on the English Wikipedia, this article title is unambiguous. Adding "Peralta" simply for the sake of disambiguation also violates WP:COMMONNAME. 162 etc. (talk) 16:43, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Benjamin Bryant (broadcaster) → Benjamin Bryant (move · discuss) – Subject is only current, living person named "Benjamin Bryant" on Wikipedia, and is the top result on Google and Bing for "Benjamin Bryant." Additionally, descriptor (broadcaster) is insufficient/inaccurate. Article documents valid notability in multiple fields, including as government official on historic projects, actor/filmmaker, and as a media figure (including, but not limited to, broadcasting). This title is currently a redirect to the disambiguation page. MHWood82 (talk) 20:42, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Primary topic grabs are, by definition, not uncontroversial. Dabpage has been moved back to its stable title. 162 etc. (talk) 22:33, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Edo University, Iyamho (currently a redirect to Edo State University, Uzairue) → Edo State University (currently a redirect instead to Edo State University, Uzairue) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME Broc (talk) 13:58, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Do you have any reliable sources showing that this is the common name? I saw this source on the page and thought maybe it would work, but the title uses Edo State and still calls it by the current name in the body text. Also there is possibility this could get confused for the previous name of Ambrose Alli University per the note in the article. Google Trends was inconclusive here unfortunately. ASUKITE 16:45, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Broc: There is a reply here about your move request. SilverLocust 💬 08:48, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping. I think my request might have been rushed. Recent media coverage (e.g.: [1][2][3]) uses the name "Edo State University, Uzairue" while "Edo University, Iyamho", the current title, is the former name of the university. My request should be amended/deleted and the page should be moved to Edo State University, Uzairue. Broc (talk) 09:05, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Broc: Please remove this request and create a new one with the new title. --Ahecht (TALK

- Driver's licenses in the United States → Driving licence in the United States (currently a redirect back to Driver's licenses in the United States) (move · discuss) – Consistency with other "Driving licence in <country>" articles. –Vipz (talk) 01:15, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:ENGVAR - use American English for an article with close ties to the United States. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:09, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Gaza humanitarian crisis (2023–present) → Gaza humanitarian crisis (currently a redirect back to Gaza humanitarian crisis (2023–present)) (move · discuss) – Remove unnecessary parentheses/disambiguator. – Howard🌽33 13:22, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Obviously controversial and unlikely to be endorsed. — BarrelProof (talk) 18:36, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- I thought it would be pretty uncontroversial considering that all we’re removing is a set of parentheses and the latter already is a redirect to the former. But fair enough ig. – Howard🌽33 19:45, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Howardcorn33, a good rule of thumb is if it's in any CTOP area, the move is going to be controversial unless it's something like unambiguous misspelling (adding a random F at the front of a name or something). Sennecaster (Chat) 03:15, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

- Dell Inspiron → Inspiron (currently a redirect back to Dell Inspiron) (move · discuss) – Make shorter (WP:CONCISE, WP:PRECISE) ComputerUserUser (talk) 19:18, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- I recall seeing several RMs in which the removal of the name of the maker of a console or computer product was opposed, arguing for retaining that information for reasons of consistency and clarity/recognizability, so this seems like a potentially controversial move. It should get a full RM discussion (preferably formatted as a multi-page RM with Intel Skulltrail → Skulltrail). — BarrelProof (talk) 18:34, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

- Apple II clones (currently a redirect to List of Apple II clones) → Apple II clone (currently a redirect instead to List of Apple II clones) (move · discuss) – Make shorter and more concise ComputerUserUser (talk) 20:02, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- The usage of "clones" is accurate here because there are multiple Apple II clones. The singular would be used if there was only one clone. EggRoll97 (talk) 00:43, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- User:TonyTheTiger/sandbox/Influencer → Influencer (currently a redirect instead to Internet celebrity) (move · discuss) – Correcting the conflation of Internet celebrity and Influencer. Currently influencer redirects to the other term. TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 20:10, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Has this gone through WP:AFC? 162 etc. (talk) 22:30, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- This should go through AFC in my opinion. I have my doubts of whether it would survive a deletion discussion. EggRoll97 (talk) 23:14, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- I have never gone through AFC unless a WP:COI. On what grounds would this be deleted. It should be clear that an influencer is different than an Internet celebrity, which is the point. Some internet celebrities are not influencers and some influencers are not internet celebrities. Thus, we need a new article. This is stub/start territory, but not AFD territory.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- @TonyTheTiger The place to discuss this would be the talk page for Internet celebrity. I see you tried and got no response, but you didn't use WP:PROPSPLIT, which would help. You could also let various related wikiprojects know about the discussion. -- asilvering (talk) 06:24, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- TonyTheTiger is well past the autoconfirmed threshhold and unlikely to have a CoI here. I fail to see why this would need to go through AfC, as AfC encourages established editors to create articles on their own. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 16:32, 4 March 2024 (UTC)- Three editors have already expressed WP:N concerns, so this should definitely be discussed somewhere, and WP:RMT is not the best place for that. I see OP has opened a thread at Talk:Internet celebrity#Splitting article, but no discussion ensued. 162 etc. (talk) 16:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Understood, but AFC isn't the best place for that either. --Ahecht (TALK

- Main issue I see here is that content from Internet celebrity would need to be moved to the new article as well, rather than just a new page. As asilvering put it, proposing through PROPSPLIT would make most sense here, as I don't doubt there is enough content that already exists on IC to move to Inlufencer. Best of luck with it. - Abellio London (currently a redirect to Transport UK London Bus) → Transport UK London Bus (move · discuss) – Rename of the company to TUK London Bus has legally taken effect today per news articles; redirect is as a result of a reverted premature move. Hullian111 (talk) 07:47, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Given the previous RM and Amakuru's revert, this needs a new WP:RM. GTrang (talk) 00:23, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Nicholas Nelson (Jamaican footballer) (currently a redirect to Nicholas Nelson (footballer)) → Nicholas Nelson (currently a redirect instead to Nick Nelson) (move · discuss) – Current page for "Nicholas Nelson" is a redirect to a character from the movie and graphic novel Heartstopper. While the character is more popular than the soccer player, it makes sense for the person with the name "Nicholas Nelson" to have the base, non-disambiguated page name with a hat note to the character. Happy to discuss further. Debartolo2917 (talk) 04:40, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

- I'll note that all incoming links to Nicholas Nelson appear to be soccer-related. 162 etc. (talk) 05:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
