This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Skarmory (talk | contribs) at 05:23, 14 July 2023 (→‎Contested technical requests: Two removed (under discussion), plus a typo fix.). If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

  • There's a massive recent spike in English-language ngrams for the non-English title. Later in that policy, there's the quote In deciding whether and how to translate a foreign name into English, follow English-language usage., and WP:NCUE also supports this. The general standard is that if a non-English title is more commonly used, it should be the title of an article. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 05:07, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Skarmory: It seems "Military Academy of Agulhas Negras" is not the most common English translation, but it's "Agulhas Negras Military Academy". And based on English-language ngrams the trend is somewhat similar to the Non-English title. If we look up further on books that uses non-English title, most of the time the non-English name is mentioned on either Abbreviation section or Reference section of those books. So, I am not entirely convinced that the non-English name is the most common name used in English language. Ckfasdf (talk) 06:58, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ckfasdf: That's not enough to convince me this is uncontroversial, and that it shouldn't go through a full requested move. (I'm not necessarily opposed to the move as of now; I'd probably want to do some more digging before figuring out where I stand.) Skarmory (talk • contribs) 07:58, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Human.: This article has been moved three times, including once in October 2022 (albeit, the moving user has been blocked from mainspace since for making undiscussed changes without discussion), and this is not a previous title of the article. I think that's enough basis for this to go through RM instead of being moved unilaterally. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 05:07, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I wouldn't support the proposed name, I think a descriptive one is better, but I also do think it should have European Union in the title as it's not clear what it refers to currently.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:09, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@UtherSRG: i don't think Common Name criteria applies here, Please see Chief of the Air Staff 14 out of 10 contains official name with(the) in titles, and also Pakistan Navy's & Air Force's Second, Third, and Fourth level command posts alredy contains full name with(the) in titles. 223.123.88.183 (talk) 03:47, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
COMMONNAME should always be considered, and if a request fails to be the common name, it should usually go through a full requested move. It's possible the other articles sren't following COMMONNAME, or consistency could be deemed to be less important than what the most common name is – there's a lot of nuances involved. These moves could also get consensus, just there is basis to oppose, which means it's not uncontroversial. A full requested move may be started using the discuss link above.
