- Centre-right opposition leader Traian Băsescu wins the Romanian presidential run-off election against favourite Social-Democrat Prime minister Adrian Năstase.
- Ham Lini becomes the new Prime Minister of Vanuatu, following parliament's motion of no confidence against Serge Vohor.
- The opposition Pan-Blue Coalition retains majority in the legislative election in Taiwan, garnering 114 of the 225 seats. The governing Democratic Progressive Party and its Pan-Green Coalition win 101 seats.
