- 16:0816:08, 20 September 2020 diff hist −102 Howard University Howard University was never known by any name other than Howard University. There were two names proposed during the discussions for founding the college: Howard Theological Seminary and Howard Normal and Theological Institute for the Education of Preachers and Teachers. However, at the 3rd planning meeting it was decided that the college would be named "Howard University." That is the name that was submitted with the charter application and the name used when the college opened in May.
