Sham Valley is a Himalayan valley located in the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh. Likir located near the valley. The village is famous for its Buddhist Monastery. The valley is known amongst trekkers coming to Leh. It's starts from Spituk and goes till Lamayouro.[1]

The valley is 32 km long and it takes 4-5 days to complete the trek. The maximum elevation is 3874 metres. It is located 180 to 200 kilometres from the territory's capital Leh and Kargil is around 170 kilometres.[2][3] Srinagar-Leh National Highway passes through the valley.[4][5][6] The nearest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. Apricot is region's main crop.[7] For this reason he valley is called as 'Apricot valley'.[8]

On 16 Augest 2024, the Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah has announced the creation of five new districts in Ladakh including Sham valley.[9][10]
