Lee Yoo-young (Korean이유영; born December 8, 1989) is a South Korean actress.[1] She debuted in the film Late Spring (2014) for which she won Best Actress at the 14th Milan International Film Festival, making her the first Korean to receive the honor.[2][3]

Early life and education

Lee Yoo-young was born in Seoul on December 8, 1989.[4] After graduating from high school, she didn't go to college and worked as a hairdresser assistant at a hair salon, and in 2010, at the age of 22, she went to the acting department of the Korea National University of Arts Theatre.[5][6]

Career

While attending Korea National University of Arts, the 2014 film Spring, which was the debut of a commercial film, began to attract attention at the Milan International Film Festival with the Best Actress Award.[7] In this movie, Lee Yu-young played Min-kyung, a poor rural woman who received money from Jeong-sook (Kim Seo-hyung) and became Jeong-sook's husband and became a nude model for Jun-gu (Park Yong-woo), a sculptor who fell ill.[8]

In the background of playing this role, Lee said, "I fell in love at a glance after reading the scenario.",[5] I was worried about showing the movie to my acquaintances and family because of the exposure, but my mom said, "Are you ashamed of your acting and your body?" It is said that she was become courageous in one word.[9]

With this work, she won the 2015 Film of the Year Award, the Buil Film Award and the Daejong Film Festival the following year, and the Fox Rookie Award. In 2015, she won the Rookie of the Year's Blue Dragon Film Award for the movie Ganshin. She was one of 2018 expected actors.[10][11]

Personal life

In December 2016, Lee was confirmed to be in a relationship with Yourself and Yours (2016) co-star Kim Joo-hyuk[12] until his death on October 30, 2017, in a traffic collision.[13][14]

On February 6, 2023, it was confirmed that Lee was dating a non-celebrity boyfriend.[15]
