K K Nishad is an Indian playback singer^[1], composer^[2], and stage performer known for his significant contributions to Malayalam cinema. Trained in both Hindustani^[3] and Carnatic classical music traditions, Nishad has garnered acclaim for his versatile vocal abilities, including proficiency in ghazal singing. He is a recipient of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award for Best Male Singer^[4], highlighting his excellence in the field.

Nishad's career spans international performances, with engagements in concerts and stage shows across various countries. He has collaborated with renowned musicians and contributed to numerous prestigious stages globally, enhancing cultural exchanges through his music.

Personal life^[5][6][7]

Nishad was born in Kozhikode to T. N. Krishnankutty, a retired PWD engineer, and Saradha M. V.^[8], a homemaker.  Nisahd had his interest in music at a young age. His sister, Athira is also a singer.^[9]

Throughout his school and college years in Kerala, Nishad actively participated in annual youth festivals, where he showcased his talents in Mappilappattu and Kadhaprasangam, earning acclaim for his musical abilities.^[10][11]

Academically, Nishad holds Master's and B.Ed degrees in Mathematics. Before pursuing a career in music, he served as a Guest Lecturer at Devagari St. Josephs College^[12] in Kozhikode.

Nishad is married to Savija, and they have two sons, Adithya and Ayaan^[13]

Career

Prior to becoming a musician, he was a Guest Lecturer at the Devagari St. Josephs College, Kozhikode. He is a post-graduate in Mathematics.^[18]

Nishad debuted as a playback singer in 2002 with the song "Manassukal Thammil [Puthooram] ..." in Rajasenan's Malayalam film Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari under music director Benny Kannan.^[18] It was followed by Swapnam Kondu Thulabharam.^[19]

Genres

He was initiated into Carnatic music by his father. Later on, he started learning Chelannoor Sukumaran Bhagavathar, Shivan, Sreedharan Mundangad and Palai C. K. Ramachandran . Presently, he is learning from Perumbavoor G. Raveendranath.^{[citation needed]}

He also learned Hindustani music. He started learning from Sri Nalin Moolji and Fayaz Khan. Presently, he is learning from Suenani Dathateya Velankar. He was also trained under Mridangam players Sivan and Sumod.^{[citation needed]}
