Luca Preda (born 19 March 2006) is a Romanian professional tennis player. He has a career-high ITF junior combined ranking of No. 5, achieved on 29 April 2024.

Early life

Preda is from Constanța[1] and trains at Tenis Club Bright.[2] He also plays basketball.[3]

Junior career

In 2020, Preda made his ITF Juniors debut as a wildcard at the J5 Bright Trophy in Constanța. He recorded his first win at the Oradea Junior Trophy 3. He won his first doubles title at the J4 Prebet Tennis Cup in Bistrița,[4] and won his first singles title in August 2021 at the J5 Neocom Open in Skopje.[5] The following month, he won both the singles and doubles titles at the J5 Varna Junior Cup.[6] In 2022, he reached the semifinals of the J2 Oradea Junior Trophy, the J3 I.CLTK Prague Open, the J3 Liepāja International, and the J2 Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşçıoğlu Cup in Istanbul.[7] He also reached the final of the J3 ITF J3 Masters Tennis Academy in Nicosia, but lost to Tristan Stringer.[8]

In 2023, he won the J300 ITF German Juniors in Bamberg,[9] and reached the semifinals of the J200 Serbia Open in Novi Sad, the J300 Torneo Internacional Club De La Colina in Zapopan,[10] and the J300 Eddie Herr in Bradenton.[11] He reached his biggest final to date at the J500 Orange Bowl, but lost to Danil Panarin.[12] In February 2024, he won his first J500 title in Cairo, making him the first Romanian player to win a J500 since Ana Bogdan in 2008.[13] In April, he reached the final of the J500 event in Offenbach, but retired halfway through the first set.[14] He made his Junior Grand Slam debut at the 2024 French Open, where he reached the second round in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles with partner Thomas Faurel.[15][16]

Professional career

In May 2023, Preda made his ITF professional debut at the M15 Bright Trophy in Constanța. That July, he reached the semifinal of the Trofeul Ion Țiriac in Brașov.[17] He represented Romania at the 2024 Davis Cup World Group I play-offs.[18]
