Kilynn Lunsford is an American singer, musician and artist. She is best known for singing and playing guitar in the bands Little Claw and Taiwan Housing Project. Her debut solo album, Custodians of Human Succession, was released in 2022.[1]

Background

Lunsford grew up in Manassas, VA. She began experimenting with guitar while in high school and has cited Royal Trux and Diamanda Galas as early musical influences.[2][3]

Career

After moving to Seattle in 2000, Lunsford was looking for musicians to sing with when she met guitarist Heath Heemsbergen, with whom she formed the band Dark Places.[2]

Lunsford relocated to Detroit with Heemsbergen in 2003.[4] Inspired by the primitive sounds of Electric Eels and Hardcore Devo, they formed experimental noise-punk band Little Claw, in which she both sang and played guitar.[2] The band went through several lineup changes over the years and released records on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace! label, Siltbreeze, and Not Not Fun Records.[4]

After a brief period living in Thailand[5], Lunsford moved to Philadelphia and started Taiwan Housing Project in 2012 with Harry Pussy's Mark Feehan. What began as a sonically abstract collaboration soon evolved into a full band.[6] The name is a reference to the Sanzhi UFO houses that Lunsford encountered in Thailand.[3] Their first album, Veblen Death Mask, was released by Kill Rock Stars in 2017[7] and their follow up, Sub-Language Trustees, by Ever/Never Records in 2019.[8]

Her first solo album, Custodians of Human Succession, was released in November 2022 by Ever/Never Records.[8][9]
