Joe Dancey (born September 1976)[1] is a failed MP candidate for the Labour Party for the seat of Stockton West in the election of 4 July 2024. He was previously head of Lord Sebastian Coe's office for the London 2012 Summer Olympics organising committee, playing a key role in organising the London Olympics,[2] and also worked for Baroness Amos and former Hartlepool MP Peter Mandelson, a fellow graduate of St Catherine's College, Oxford.[3][4]
Early life
Dancey was born in Stockton-on-Tees to James Cook University Hospital NHS Nurse Mary Dancey and his father who was a Chemical Engineer at Seal Sands.[5] He was educated in Eaglescliffe at Junction Farm Primary School and Egglescliffe School. He attended the University of Oxford, where he studied Philosophy, politics and economics.[6][7]
Parliamentary career
He was not elected as MP for Stockton West at the 2024 United Kingdom general election, but came second to Matt Vickers.[8]
Personal life
Dancey currently lives in Yarm in the Stockton West constituency[9], which is his home when he is not in Westminster working.[10] He previously lived in East London with his partner, the Labour MP for Ilford North and Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting.[11][12][13][14]
